Job Description

Primary Objective of Position:

Under general direction, provide leadership to direct Engineering efforts concentrating on product support and development. Responsible for planning, scheduling and coordinating engineering projects typically involving more than one discipline and which require independent evaluation of critical issues in terms of both resources and design criteria.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

* Recommend equipment and staffing requirements by understanding business needs.
* Utilize CIP practices to improve daily operation.
* Determine budget and schedule parameters, and delegate assignments appropriately.
* Determine the technical design criteria for the project and design/plan accordingly.
* Ensure that appropriate background information such as past designs, materials specifications, and governing code requirements has been researched and incorporated into the design effort.
* Perform necessary design calculations for the project, and ensure that calculations performed by others are accurate.
* Prepare rough sketches and notes for the design effort and forward to a junior engineer or technician for refinement.
* Determine material quantities and specifications for the project.
* Ensure that effective coordination with other disciplines involved in the project takes place.
* Schedule and conduct progress briefings and coordination checks to discuss the engineering effort and project status.
* Check and review all project drawings for adequacy and accuracy.
* Ensure the documentation of all design criteria, calculations performed, and decisions made.
* Support existing electronic products by working with worldwide engineering centers.
* Facilitate the release of product changes by working with electronic contract manufacturers in multiple world areas.
* Identify opportunities for product improvements by working with the Quality group.
* Interview applicants for employment when called upon.


* Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise in a technical environment.
* Knowledge of design techniques.
* Must be able to interface effectively with peers to understand customer need and recommend improvements.
* Requires the ability to devise new approaches and solutions to problems identified and to modify and extend theories and practices within the field, as well as the ability to organize and lead engineering projects.


* Minimum five years of design engineering experience, where a good working knowledge of advanced engineering principles, techniques and applications has been obtained.
* Ability to supervise technical people; previous experience with direct supervision preferred. Demonstrated leadership ability within project teams, cross-functional teams and within daily working teams required.


Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering required.
