Job Description

Pivotal is looking for a highly motivated team player to work as a Software Engineer on our GemFire team. We work on cutting edge data management products that transform the way businesses operate. GemFire is a distributed, in-memory, and transactional datastore designed to provide very high throughput with predictable latency. GemFire is deployed throughout the world by demanding customers serving mission-critical applications in financial, telecommunications, retail, and transportation industries. We work with many technologies including: distributed systems, continuous queries, stream processing, query optimization, parallel function execution, scalable distributed data structures, concurrent data structures, in-memory databases, fault-tolerance paradigms, and P2P network topologies. In addition, the GemFire team participates in the open source Apache Geode (incubating) project community. Responsibilities: - Participate in specification, design, implementation, testing, evangelism, and support of the product, as well as improve existing features and product performance.
- Work on a small team (4-8) engineers on a daily basis, using Agile and Open Source engineering practices.
- Develop enhancements and fixes to the Spring Data GemFire library.
- Interact with the open source community. Answer questions, review patches, and build consensus on project direction. - Identify and integrate complementary products within the data ecosystem, including cloud infrastructure and automation. - Benchmark against competitive products and identify opportunities for optimization.

- BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent, with coursework or experience in distributed systems. - Keen understanding of state-of-the-art techniques and trends in data management, high-scale network applications, and distributed algorithms. - Expert Java skills, particularly in concurrent programming techniques.
- Mastery of the Spring framework.
- Track record of contributing to open source projects and engaging in developer communities.
- Experience with API development strongly desired. - Ability to master new technology and application domains (e.g. financial, scientific, and industrial). - Outstanding attitude and energy. - Excellent communication skills.
