Job Description

DSSD is a Menlo Park, California-based developer of an innovative new rack-scale flash storage tier that is now part of EMC's Emerging Technology Products Division. DSSD's architecture complements EMC's industry-leading flash storage portfolio and is designed to deliver game-changing performance for I/O-intensive in-memory database and Big Data applications such as SAP HANA and Hadoop. DSSD will operate as a standalone unit in EMC's Emerging Technology Products Division.

DSSD is looking for talented entry level hardware engineer to help develop the world's fastest storage.
Participate in multi-disciplinary research in the design, development, testing and utilization of flash storage hardware components

Working to define and create collateral for new platforms and devices (Schematic entry, reference design layout, initial board bring up and test, including driver bring up)

Platform optimization of power, performance, and thermal optimizations BKM's

System integration and debug (Including SW, FW and HW)

Qualifications

Experience working in an electrical design team or validation team debugging software, firmware or hardware subsystems
Experience with test configurations and operation of laboratory test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Logic analyzers, USB and SATA protocol analyzers, ITP, DMM, etc.
Work in a lab environment with hardware and software experts to root-cause difficult system-level issues and provide recommendations to the team for resolution.
Debug will involve knowledge of system and component-level power states, I/O bus protocol, hardware-firmware and firmware-OS interaction, hardware-driver and driver-OS interaction, etc.

Skills - class project or internship skills. DSSD values skills learned during coursework, projects and internships, such as:

Logic circuits: discrete and programmable
Memory: DDR, NAND
Power: linear and switched regulators, thermal design
Signal integrity
Basic analog circuitry
x86 and ARM architectures
Modular systems
Knowledge in power development and validation.
Schematic capture (Concept preferred)
Layout tool (plus-Allegro preferred)
Spice simulators
Field solvers (plus)
Scripting languages (Python preferred)
Bugzilla, Git, and Linux
Experience
Bachelor of Electrical Engineering or related field with a background in board design and layout with up to 1.5 years of PCB design, component selection, power-on/bring-up, and debug
