Job Description

Designs, develops, modifies and evaluates electronic assemblies, components, and circuit boards for ESI's electronic equipment and systems by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Determines design approaches and parameters.
* Analyzes equipment to establish operating data, conducts experimental tests and evaluates results.
* Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability.
* Analyzes data to determine feasibility of product proposal.
* Confers with research personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develop designs.
* Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and schematics.
* Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product or system.
* Plans and develops experimental test programs.
* Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
* Evaluates engineering test results for possible application to developments of systems or other uses.
* Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to formulate and test electronic designs.
* May review vendor capability to support product development.
* Other duties may be assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's or equivalent in the field of Physics, Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Laser and Optics preferred; or up to 1 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Analog and digital board level design skills are required. Lab equipment experience (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers, etc.) is required. Knowledge of EMI/EMC design requirements and testing is required. System level design, testing and debugging capability in the context of larger electro mechanical systems is prefered. FPGA firmware, Microcontroller, and DSP design experience is prefered. Experience with lasers and laser measurement equipment (power meters, probes, beam profilers, pulse detectors, etc.) is prefered.

Primary consideration will be given to US Citizens and US Green Card Holders. Travel expected up to 10%.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occassionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of radiation and electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
