Job Description

The Nurse Intern is a current student of a State of California Board of Registered Nursing-approved Associate Degree of Nursing Program who has been accepted in to the El Centro Regional Medical Center Transition to Practice Nurse Internship Program. The Nurse Intern is supervised at all times by qualified registered nurse and provides direct and indirect patient care to patients residing in ECRMC's Medical-Surgical Department, Emergency Department, Maternal Child Services Department, Intensive Care Unit, and Perioperative Services Department.

The unlicensed Nurse Intern may perform only those skills that may be provided by unlicensed personnel and for which they have demonstrated competence. Nurse Interns may NOT administer medications, insert invasive equipment (e.g. nasogastric tubes, urinary catheters, etc.) or perform any type of intravenous therapy (IV), including peripheral catheter insertions, administering IV medications or IV fluid, adjusting IV rates, changing IV tubing, discontinuing IV's or change IV site dressings.

* High School Diploma or equivalent; and
* Basic Life Support (CPR); and
* Must be a current student of an approved nursing program (Approved nursing programs must be accredited by a national nursing program accreditation organization, recognized by the State of California and must meet the standards set by the California Board of Nursing); and
* Must have passed Semester I, II and III of an approved nursing program.

Weekend and/or Holiday Rotation may be required.
