You must have compassion, patience, diligence, and a thick skin all for the inner satisfaction of having helped shape someone's future. In other words, you have to love teaching to be an instructor.

As a Pharmacy Technician Instructor, you will collaborate with the Program Director and the Clinical Coordinator. You should possess good interpersonal skills in relating to students, and other faculty members, Career Services and Enrollment Specialists.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU MUST:

* Orient new students to the department, including the student handbook for Surgical Technologists, the availability and location of educational resources, and all safety precautions and emergency protocols.
* Make arrangements for each student to have extra tutoring when needed.
* Assign appropriate homework requirements to each student.
* Monitor each student's progress throughout the course.
* Exhibit professional behavior and serves as a role model for students.
* Promote patient and student safety.
* Create a positive and supportive learning environment.
* Make systematic observations and objective judgments about student performance.
* Give each student timely feedback about his/her performance, providing suggestions for improvement.
* Meet weekly with the Program Director to maintain productive two way communication between the program and students outcomes.
* Participate in continuing education seminars and professional development opportunities in order to maintain current state-of-the-art knowledge and skills.
* Attend two (2) meetings a year with the Program Director and the other Instructors to discuss program goals, policies and educational methodologies.

Your time will be spent participating in the following activities:

* 75% - Student interaction
* 20% - Grading Papers and Grade Recording, and Lab Assessments
* 5% - Graduation, Field Trips, Student Activities, and Administrative

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

* Pharmacist or Diploma in Pharmacy Tech (CPhT) with willingness to pursue AS; OR, CPhT and an associate's degree or above.
* Must have three years of work experience in a pharmacy

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

* Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
* Selecting and using training/instructional methods and procedures appropriate for the situation when learning or teaching new things
* The ability to communicate information and ideas, written and verbal, so others will understand
* Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems
* The ability to motivate students to reach goals
* The ability to work with a diverse student population
