Program Overview:

This position is part of Southern California Edison's (SCE) Law Clerk Experience Program. Law clerks are expected to work forty hours per week during a 12 week period during the summer and an average of 15 hours per week for the rest of the school year. Hours in the school year will be somewhat flexible to accommodate academic commitments.

About the Law Department:

The Law Department has lawyers practicing in many subject areas, including energy regulation and policy, power procurement, litigation, labor and employment, real property, contracts, intellectual property, local government affairs and corporate governance. On the advocacy side of the practice, the Department's lawyers regularly practice before the state and federal courts and before state and federal agencies including the California Public Utilities Commission, the California Energy Commission and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. On the business side of the practice, lawyers support new business initiatives, help fashion energy policy, draft and negotiate contracts for the purchase or sale of power, telecommunications, software, real property and equipment, and provide other legal services needed by a Fortune 500 company. The Law Department is located in Southern California Edison's corporate headquarters in Rosemead, California.

Position Overview:

The successful candidate will perform research on a variety of legal issues, and engage in writing memos, briefs, draft pleadings, and contract provisions at the direction of the supervising attorney; may attend departmental and client meetings, and other relevant meetings with supervising attorney(s). In addition, the successful candidate may assist in the representation of the Company on various matters, including in state and federal court, and advising client organizations in identifying and resolving legal, business and strategic issues related to general business issues, claims and liability. The successful candidate is also expected to maintain a safety conscious work environment by following Edison safety protocols and safe work practices and performing other responsibilities/duties as assigned.

Qualifications You Need…

* Must be a law student entering their third year of law school, pursuing a Juris Doctorate (JD) in Law at an ABA accredited institution
* Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.00 or higher
* Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills
* Demonstrated experience conducting efficient electronic and traditional research
* Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
* Demonstrated experience illustrating excellent analytical and interpersonal skills
