Job Description

General Summary

The School of Engineering Technology is accepting applications for an opening for a part-time lecturer interested in teach material science and engineering undergraduate courses with associated lab (Teaching ME 325 and ME 326).

The program of Mechanical Engineering is seeking ABET accreditation. To fulfill ABET compliance, the program is following an assessment plan with well-established performance indicators. The Candidate must be willing to participate in all ABET compliance activities needed to execute the assessment plan and deliver the performance indicators pertaining to his/her course. This requires coordination with the program coordinator and school director.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching may include a number of particular obligations which employees are expected to fulfill, including but not limited to: meeting with students during and outside of assigned classes, assessing student work and performance, preparing syllabi and course materials, providing copies of syllabi and course materials to their supervisor on request, and assigning and submitting grades in accordance with established Eastern Michigan University schedules.

Perform related departmental duties as required.

Qualifications

The candidate must have a doctorate degree in engineering from a North American institution with focus on materials engineering.

The candidate must be able to deliver a junior level course in materials science and engineering with its associate lab guided by Mechanical engineering curriculum and master course syllabi.

The candidate must be familiar with ABET compliance and must be willing to provide assessment evidence of the attainment of the learning outcomes of the junior courses as specified by the School of Engineering Technology and the program of Mechanical Engineering.

A minimum of two years' experience teaching engineering courses in a four-year engineering program is highly desired.

The candidate should be willing to submit assessment evidence of student learning during the semester, maintain a syllabus-based pacing of the material that is uniformly distributed across the semester, and conduct classroom and lab teaching at the rigor required by the Mechanical Engineering Program. All lab experiments associated with the course must be prepared at the start of the semester.
