Job Description


Responsible for ensuring that all Gallo products, except where prohibited, can be shipped/distributed compliantly and are shipped compliantly in a timeframe consistent with the organization’s expectations.  Responsible for identification and implementation of efficient and effective procedures to achieve compliant distribution.  Responsible for implementation of best practice Global Trade Management function, including optimization of Global Sourcing capabilities.  Manages relationships with US Customs and other Border authorities as necessary.  Manages Distribution and Trade Compliance staff as necessary.



  • Responsible for ensuring compliance of Gallo products in all markets (U.S. and International) in which the company chooses to do business.
  • Ensures packaging and labeling compliance.
  • Coordinates with Production Compliance to ensure product composition compliance.
  • Registers products in a timely manner as necessary.
  • Oversees provision of all necessary regulatory/compliance paperwork
  • Drive to optimize systems to efficiently and effectively handle product registrations in the U.S. and International markets
  • Manages activities related to obtaining government approval for products requiring registrations.
  • Develops systems to handle Direct to Consumer (DTC) and Wholesale (Three tier) registrations.
  • Explores automated systems for international registrations.
  • Coordinates with other Departments to simplify paperwork as necessary.
  • Becomes knowledgeable in all aspects of Distribution in the U.S. Market, in particular with Franchise laws and Gallo’s RDC/Distributor Network.  Build and develop relationships as necessary.
  • Responsible for resolution of supply chain compliance related market access issues for all markets. 
  • Support Gallo’s efforts in Comanufacturing and Global Sourcing.  Work with others in Compliance and with other Departments to build a robust system to ensure Compliance of co-manufacturers with all appropriate regulations.
  • Coordinates with others to ensure compliance of products in the country of origin, where these products (“imports”), will be exported to the US or other countries.
  • Responsible for maintaining awareness of relevant food safety regulations (in particular Food Defense and Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) and proposed) and coordination of appropriate response(s) by the Winery to ensure Compliance. 
  • Corresponds with and maintains relationships with relevant government agencies, trade associations and consultants where appropriate.  In particular, build and develop relationships with TTB, CBP and local State Authorities.
  • Coordinates and manages Global Trade Compliance program.
  • Maintains awareness of Trade Compliance (import/export) rules, regulations and developments.
  • Monitors and informs on Free Trade efforts/tariff changes etc. that are of relevance to the company.
  • Identities opportunities to the business where changing locations/tariff rates/classifications may be beneficial.
  • Develops and maintains state of the art Global Trade Management Program
  • Serves as primary point of contact for regulatory issues with Customer Service, Sourcing, Customs Brokers, Freight Forwarders and third Party Logistics Providers.
  • Chairs C-TPAT program and coordinates C-TPAT audits as required.
  • Audits/monitors customs entries processed by the Winery’s customs brokers to ensure proper tariff classifications, valuation and country of origin/marking of imported merchandise.
  • Coordinates related government interaction and compliance activities within the company, where interaction is initiated by foreign government agencies.
  • Reviews proposed activities by international regulatory agencies to determine potential impact on the organization and advises management on such issues.
  • Coordinates the resolution of non-compliant situations, and develops solutions/measures to prevent reoccurrences of these situations.
  • Prepares reports to management, defines and evaluates problem, and recommends solution(s).
  • Maintains appropriate files, records and documentation.
  • Conducts special business related studies as requested.
  • Monitors and ensures achievement of performance goals and objectives either directly or through direct reports.
  • Oversees and handles projects that have short to long term focus.
  • Balances planning efforts with day to day demands.
  • Ensures employee conformance to established best practices and proper training of staff.
  • Identifies and obtains staff resources and capabilities needed to accomplish objectives. 
  • Participates in the development of and implements a successful vision/strategy, through strong leadership skills.
  • Develops or approves recommendations to change systems, policies, and procedures; ensures timely and accurate implementation.
  • Participates in department and interdepartmental planning and management teams and works cross-functionally to improve processes within the organization.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations.  If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Bachelor's degree plus 5 years of regulatory compliance experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility including supervisory or managerial experience; or 9 years of regulatory compliance experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility including supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Computer skill requirements include:  Intermediate MS Excel, basic MS Access, and advanced MS Word and MS PowerPoint.



  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a Logistics concentration , International Studies or Legal Studies focus plus 8 years of regulatory compliance experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility including supervisory or managerial experience
  • Master’s degree.
  • Import/Export Compliance and Operations, Customs Brokerage experience.
  • Experience with U.S. and/or foreign legal and regulatory research and writing.
  • Experience reading, analyzing, and interpreting common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Experience responding to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Experience writing speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Experience effectively presenting information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Experience working with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Experience applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Experience defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions. Experience interpreting an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Experience researching, analyzing and applying International Trade Agreements, International laws, regulations and guidelines.
  • Experience working with all levels and functions within the Company.
