Our Tasting Room at Orin Swift is hiring a Tasting Room Supervisor to manage the guest experiennce and tastings! Supervises and provides direction to Orin Swift Cellars Tasting Room representatives. Leads tasting room operations in a manner that achieves established financial goals, ensures a rich consumer experience, builds consumer loyalty and reflects the brand essence.  .

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Participates in the training, instruction, and development of tasting room reps.
  • Participates in the development of visitor programs consistent with brand equities.
  • Meets with tasting room reps to review product promotions.
  • Manages the assignment schedule for tasting room reps.
  • Oversees the onboarding program of new tasting room reps.
  • Schedules and conducts large group, VIP, and Trade tastings.
  • Participates in group tastings, , Wine Club events and guest experiences at the tasting room.
  • Coordinates workflow for the tasting room consumer events and wine club operations.
  • Educates tasting room staff and winery visitors on winery brands.
  • Leads the promotion and procurement of memberships into the Orin Swift wine club.
  • Researches, develops, composes, and coordinates tasting room programs to facilitate “best of industry” experience for each guest.
  • Plan and execute outreach tastings and hosts or pours at off-site outreach events including industry tastings and consumer events.
  • Provides expert responses to questions regarding winery brands.
  • Participates in monitoring and reviewing the progress and accuracy of the assigned work of tasting room reps.
  • Functions as informed resource for consumers regarding winemaking, winegrowing, and wine vintages, availability of products and brand award and accolades.
  • Understands and effectively communicates the Brand message.
  • Trains team members in the operation of cash registers and credit card terminals ensuring accurate and efficient use.  
  • Oversees tasting room wine and soft goods inventory including wine ordering, wine receiving, cycle counting, conducting quarterly inventories, and vintage transitions. Stocks merchandise and orders tasting room supplies as needed.
  • Processes phone orders and wine shipping orders complying with federal and state regulations.
  • Ensures all staff members execute regulatory policies e.g. checking winery guest’s identification, etc.
  • Recognizes the symptoms of intoxication takes necessary actions to ensure guest safety.
  • Coordinates Tasting Room maintenance and vendor requests.
  • Provides performance feedback to team members in a timely manner.
  • Must maintain satisfactory attendance, to include timeliness.
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental and safety regulatory considerations.  If accountable for the work of others, responsible for ensuring their understanding and compliance.

  • Responsible for training and development of subordinate staff.
  • Conducts performance evaluations; recommends salary adjustments; schedules and approves overtime; takes disciplinary action, as necessary; addresses complaints and resolves issues.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 3 years of wine sales, retail sales, or hospitality experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility;OR

    Associate’s Degree plus 5 years of wine sales, retail sales, or hospitality experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility;OR

    7 years of wine sales, retail sales, or hospitality experience reflecting increasing levels of responsibility.

  • Required to be 21 years of age or older.
  • Required to lift and move cases of product weighing up to 45 pounds.
  • Required to work weekends and a flexible schedule.
  • Skilled in reading, comprehending, interpreting and executing simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
  • Skilled in writing simple correspondence.
  • Skilled in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing using whole numbers.
  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.

WHAT WILL SET YOU APART:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of wine sales, retail sales, or hospitality experience.
  • Skilled in the use of a cash register.
  • Skilled in communication, presentation, sales and customer service.
  • Skilled in calculating figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 
  • Skilled in basic Microsoft Office applications
  • Detailed knowledge of wine and wine production.
  • Knowledge of federal and state legal compliance related to tasting room operations preferred.
  • Skilled in personal selling, time management, and public speaking.
  • Experience effectively presenting information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
  • Experience solving practical problems and dealing with a variety of concrete variables.
