Job Description

Why E. & J. Gallo Winery?

E. & J. Gallo Winery was founded by two entrepreneurs—Ernest and Julio Gallo with a vision to democratize wine in the United States becoming the largest winery in the world.   This spirit continues today, where Gallo offers opportunities where we value innovation, collaboration, and creative thinking.   You will assist senior Legal Department counsel and work with business management staff and outside legal counsel on commercial matters.  You will be responsible for important Winery contracts and will work together with the business team to understand the deals and collectively work toward the best result.

What You Will Do

Analyze:

  • You will provide legal advice, draft, negotiate, supervise and review commercial agreements, including contracts with vendors in the Sourcing, Engineering, Information Services and other areas, and work cooperatively with business leadership in those areas to ensure appropriate terms are agreed upon.
  • You will oversee the Winery’s contract process and manage the orderly and efficient handling of Winery contracts, including recommending and effectuating adjustments to the process as needed.
  • You will develop, draft and revise Winery template agreements.
  • You will advise the business of risks present in various types of commercial agreements and provide written risk assessments.
  • You will manage consistency of the Winery’s level of risk tolerance (and relevant contractual provisions) across areas of responsibility.
  • You will assist the business with issue resolution with vendors and litigation risk assessments.

Cultivate Relationships:

  • You will consult with, supervise and manage outside counsel as appropriate in areas of responsibility.
  • You will develop and conduct legal training programs for business personnel in areas of responsibility.
  • You will develop and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with leadership in the Sourcing, Engineering, Information Services, Risk Management and other departments in areas of responsibility.
  • You will be first point of contact for outside counsel and Winery personnel in your areas of responsibility in the Legal Department and will manage and resolve issues.

What You Need

  • A Juris Doctorate plus seven (7) years of experience in relevant legal areas reflecting increasing levels of responsibility
  • California State Bar member
  • Willingness to travel when necessary

  • Substantial experience representing business clients in a sophisticated law firm practice.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and success working in a fast-paced, change-oriented environment.

  • Negotiation skills and ability to influence and leverage relationships.
  • Experience working as a team player and striving for building consensus.
  • Ability to effectively organize time in order to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at once with a sense of urgency.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
