Job Description

IT Intern

DornerWorks, located in Grand Rapids, is currently seeking an Intern to work in our Information Technology department during the current school year. This is is a great opportunity to work in the field you are studying!

What you will be doing:

* Assist internal users with computer or telephone problems.
* Conduct research to understand, explain and resolve technology issues.
* Communicate updates to users that have been or may be affected by a problem.
* Follow up with users after problems have been resolved.
* Set up new user workstations.
* Utilize tracking software to present recommendations and improvements for user systems.
* Initiate onboarding procedures for new users into the system.
* Ensure response times are quick and effective and appropriately resolve requests.
* Coordinate referrals to technical, professional or service personnel depending on the repair, training, service or issue.
* Work on system administration projects in coordination with the IT department.

What we need from you:

* Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
* Ability to communicate technical information to nontechnical personnel.
* Occasionally participates in 24x7 IT Support.
* Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
* Working knowledge of Windows and Linux desktop operating systems.
* Basic understanding of PC hardware and troubleshooting.
* Ability to install and troubleshoot software and hardware.
* Understanding of desktop networking (wired and wireless).
* Ability to follow up on assignments from IT team.
* Ability to work individually with little supervision to complete tasks/projects.
* Ability to work in a team environment.
* Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.
* Regularly required to stand or sit, reach, bend, crawl and move about the facilities and grounds.
* Ability to lift or move equipment weighing between 20 to 40 pounds.
* Availability to occasionally participate in 24X7 IT support.
* Unrestricted right to work in the US without requiring sponsorship
