Job Summary

Dominion Energy has two opportunities in our Electric Distribution Forestry Department: one in the Norfolk, VA, office and one at our West Broad office in Richmond, VA. Please select for which position(s) you would like to be considered.

This internship involves frequent customer interaction. Through a mentoring process (a mentor will be assigned to you), the intern will address questions and concerns raised by electric utility customers with respect to tree/line interactions, diagnose field conditions and obtain the knowledge and skills to identify utility lines. The intern will be exposed to all aspects of utility vegetation management including tree pruning, tree removal, initial right-of-way clearing, herbicide application, and hazard tree mitigation.

Interns will be expected to meet all safety practices and standards as well as participate in safety events. Interns will be provided with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), office space, field vehicle, computer, phone, software and training required to perform their duties.

Interns may be called upon to assist with service restoration during major outage events such as hurricanes and thunderstorms under the direct tutelage of their mentor.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

* Students must be enrolled in a 4-year program or in a 2-year program with intent to transfer to a 4-year institution.
* Candidates must be pursuing a forestry or related degree, preference on forestry.


* Prefer students have a graduation date of winter 2021 or later.
* Must have a 2.5 GPA or greater.
* Candidates must have a customer first attitude, with some customer service experience desired but not required
* Ability to work independently and manage time to ensure job completion
* Ability to navigate in vehicle through a GPS system
* Basic iPhone and laptop knowledge
* Basic tree identification knowledge preferred
* Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive a company vehicle

Education Requirements

* Students must be enrolled in a 4-year program or in a 2-year program with intent to transfer to a 4-year institution.
* Candidates must be pursuing a forestry or related degree, preference on forestry.


* Must have a graduation date of spring 2021 or later
* Prefer students have a graduation date of winter 2021 or later.


* Must have a 2.5 GPA or greater.
