DIRECTV is looking for 15 motivated and passionate students to intern within the Software Engineering department.

There are three groups within Software Engineering: Set-Top Box, Mobile, and Interactive Television.

Set-Top Box (STB)
Interns will work closely with their team to develop embedded software for DIRECTV's Genie set-top box. From user interface to middleware to graphics, interns will learn about the STB software stack and be challenged to use their creativity to bring ideas to life.

STB Requirements:
Operating Systems: Windows, Linux and or Unix Design, code and test software written in Java, and C/C++ Knowledge with Object Oriented Programming Knowledge of Model-View-Controller pattern Be able to describe highly technical details to a non-technical audience (both verbally and written). Report on status of projects to manager and mentor Attend project design and planning meetings Tackle complex software problems, including coding and testing and troubleshooting. Write documentation describing program development, logic, coding, and corrections. Must work well in a team environment Be open-minded, able to share ideas, and have fun. Mobile Interns will develop iOS/Android software and apps to enhance DIRECTV's viewing and user experience on mobile phones and tablets.
Mobile Requirements: Knowledge of software development life-cycle: analysis, design, development, and test. Experience with Objective C with iOS development Experience with Java and APIs for Android development Understanding of the current state of mobile development trends. Design patterns Practical knowledge of modern application technologies, including XML, Web Services, REST, JSON, HTML5, JavaScript, Oauth. Good communication skills Interactive Television (ITV) Interns will work closely with other team members in an agile programming atmosphere developing the cutting-edge interactive applications that make DIRECTV the best television experience in the world. Must be a self-directed individual interested in a dynamic environment with rapidly changing requirements.
ITV Interns will be expected to: Design, code and test software written in Java, JavaScript, HTML and CSS, utilizing frameworks such as Hibernate, Spring, AJAX and jQuery. Write, execute and tune SQL queries on both MySQL and Oracle database systems. Have an exceptional understanding of object oriented design concepts. Be able to describe highly technical details to a non-technical audience (both verbally and written). Report on status of projects to stakeholders and upper management. Attend project design and planning meetings. Tackle complex software problems, including coding and testing and troubleshooting. Proactively research and recommend ways of improving performance and usability of applications. Write documentation describing program development, logic, coding, and corrections. ITV Requirements:
Practical experience developing and deploying web-based and J2EE applications a plus. Background or familiarity with interactive television or mobile application development strongly desired. Experience with HTML, JavaScript, CSS, J2EE, Tomcat, JBOSS, Web Services/WDSL/XML/JSON, SQL, JTA/Hibernate, Oracle, MySQL, JMS, and Log4j Knowledge of T-SQL or PL/SQL Exposure to concepts such as AJAX and REST Proficient with the Linux command line environment Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing requirements

Qualifications

Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a baccalaureate degree in Computer Science or Engineering related field. To qualify students must be returning to school following the internship program for at least one additional term with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
