General Summary

The Project Attorney will work with Illinois non-profit immigrant-serving organizations by providing timely and critical information and resources responsive to immigration law and policy developments impacting immigrant and refugee access to rights and remedies. The Project Attorney will assist participating immigration services programs in building capacity for removal defense. Additionally, through facilitating collaboration and resource sharing amongst immigration services program, the Project Attorney will work toward improved practices and outcomes immigration services programs and their constituents.

Responsibilities & Duties

* Implement removal defense training, mentoring, resources and case support for legal services staff of immigration programs.


* Develop resources, tools and trainings for removal defense program management.


* Develop and disseminate timely practice advisories, resources and materials in response to immigration law and policy developments.


* Provide technical assistance to immigration law staff of partner immigration services organizations.


* Coordinate regular convenings of immigration legal services providers for collaboration on responses to immigration enforcement policies.


* Perform other duties as assigned.



Education & Experience

* JD, plus 2 years in immigration-related field.



Preferred Requirements

* Removal defense experience.



Financial Responsibilities

* This is a grant-funded position.


* The attorney may be required to assist in grant reporting for the project.



Certifications & Licenses

* This position requires some travel to immigration services program sites located throughout Illinois.
