About the Position: Serves as Natural Resources Manager at Lake Greeson Field Office, a major reservoir project with complex and complicated natural resource and recreation programs that are subject to numerous problems. Develops and executes the planning and management of natural and man-made resources and the operation and maintenance of all structures, roads and appurtenances. Directs the execution of these responsibilities through subordinate employees who carry out incumbent's direction of the overall project for which they are responsible.

* Coordinates the development of land and natural resource management plans.
* Approves a program of ecosystem assessment to measure the impacts of public use on various resources, particularly land, fish and wildlife resources.
* Promotes protection of threatened and endangered species by keeping the public informed.
* Identifies areas where problems reflect endangered resources, overcrowding or under development in the serviced areas.
* Implements approved mitigation plans and other authorized land management plans.
* Oversees contracts and activities to ensure contract compliance and proper administrative requirements and procedures are followed.
* Develops training plans to ensure personnel are adequately qualified to perform assigned tasks.
* Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, difficulty of the assignment and the capabilities and availability of the employee.
* Makes clear and convincing oral presentations to individuals or groups to discuss pertinent regulations laws, and policies governing the use of land, water and facilities.
* Coordinates with state and local authorities, safety council, Red Cross and other to obtain interest and support of the safety programs.

General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series 0401 -BASIC REQUIREMENT

A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.


B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Implementing a variety of complex sometimes controversial natural resource management programs for protection of the serviced areas 2) Reviewing requests for leases, licenses and special use permits for all equipment and lands in the serviced area 3) Coordinating the management of a variety of facilities and visitor information centers 4) Monitoring plans for equipment and resource needs for successful project operation and maintenance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
