After successful completion of the program requirements, the individual may, at agency discretion, be converted to a term or permanent appointment. Responsibilities

The Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training (OPDAT) plays a critical role in the Department of Justice's efforts to combat transnational crime and safeguard U.S. national security. With funding largely from the Department of State, OPDAT builds foreign counterpart capability to prevent and combat transnational crime and terrorism through case-based mentoring, assistance with legislative review and drafting, skills building, and long-term sustainable criminal justice and security sector institutional development throughout the world.

This internship is expected to continue through the fall and spring semesters. Applicants solely seeking summer internships should look for other opportunities.

As a Program Analyst Trainee (DOJ Pathways Intern), you will:

* Provide support to a regional operations team and aid management and analysts with projects and programs, especially with seeking and obtaining data;
* Assist senior analysts in tracking financial and programmatic information, and developing segments of program budgets;
* Conduct research and prepare reports and written materials on legal, social, political and economic subjects for countries where future program projects are planned; and
* Assist senior analysts with preparation of reports and briefings.

Qualifications

To be eligible for this internship position, ALL of the following requirements must be met:

* Academic Enrollment: You must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, two-year or four-year college or university, graduate, or professional school (go to https://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/ to verify accreditation status). Individuals who are enrolled must be taking at least a half-time academic, vocational, or technical course load leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate. "Half-time" is defined by the school in which the student is enrolled.
* You must be enrolled in a school within the Washington, D.C. commuting area (75 miles from DC) or be enrolled in a distance education program in order to be considered. If you are enrolled in an online degree program for a school normally located outside of Washington, D.C., please indicate this clearly in your application package.
* Good Academic Standing: Applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA.
* Qualification Requirements: Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for this position as outlined below.

To qualify at the GS-05 grade level, applicants must have completed 4 academic years of post-high school study leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree; OR have 1 year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-04 grade level to include: conducting research to prepare reports and briefings and performing clerical tasks such as arranging meetings or maintaining files; OR have a combination of education and experience as listed below. Please note, only education in excess of 60 undergraduate hours may be used in this calculation.

To qualify at the GS-07 grade level, applicants must have completed 1 full academic year of graduate level education;OR possess a bachelor's degree AND meet one of the following provisions for Superior Academic Achievement: (1) a standing in the upper third of your college class or major subdivision (e.g. school of business) at the time you apply; (2) a grade point average of "B" (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) or its equivalent for all courses completed; (a) at the time of application; or (b) during the last two years of your undergraduate curriculum; (3) a "B+" (3.5 on a 4.0 scale) or tis equivalent for all courses completed in a qualifying major field of study, either (a) at the time of application; or (b) during the last two years of your undergraduate curriculum; or (4) election to membership in one of the national honorary societies (other than freshman societies; OR have 1 year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-05 grade level to include: conducting research to prepare reports and briefings and organizing and analyzing data and information.; OR have a combination of education and experience as listed below. Please note, only education in excess of a completed undergraduate degree may be used in this calculation.

Combination of Education and Experience - Your current education completed is credited as a percentage of the education required for the grade level and your current experience is credited as a percentage of the total experience required for the grade level. The two percentages are added and must equal 100% in order to qualify for the desired grade level.

All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools that meet this criteria, see www.ed.gov.
