Job Description

Job Summary

Under general supervision of a pharmacist, performs technical tasks within the pharmacy department, including I.V. compounding, chemotherapy compounding, Pyxis restocking and maintenance, unit dose prepackaging, controlled substance preparation and dispensing and basic computer system operations. Serves as a mentor and trainer of pharmacy technician staff in the technical tasks listed above. Assists with the competency assessment of pharmacy technician staff to perform required technical tasks. Serves as a role model to the pharmacy technician staff regarding the principles of good customer service. Creates the pharmacy technician work schedule. Assists with coordinating and directing the activities of the pharmacy technicians. Assists with the evaluation of pharmacy technician performance and provided input regarding the annual evaluation of the pharmacy technician staff. Provides input and direction on ways to improve departmental operations. Performs technical tasks and duties as directed by a registered pharmacist. Assists with the oversight, maintenance, and development of our automated dispensing services.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school Diploma or GED certificate. Completion of a pharmacy technician training program preferred. Experience: Typically, three years of experience as a pharmacy technician in a hospital or ambulatory pharmacy. Previous management experience is preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to work as a team member. Attention to detail. Knowledge of basic pharmacy practices and procedures. Knowledge of medications and medical supplies. Knowledge of record-keeping techniques. Mathematical computation skills. Sterile and non-sterile compounding skills. Organization and communication skills. Good typing, keyboarding and proofreading skills. Ability to maintain adequate inventory/supplies. Certificate/License/Registration: PTCB certification or current pharmacy intern license. All Certifications and Licenses required for this job must be kept current as a condition of continued employment.
