The Truck Repair Mechanic performs repairs and maintenance on diesel trucks and trailers to maximize safe and productive operations. Mechanics are relied on daily to keep fleet of trucks and trailers in top condition.

Day-to-Day Role:

  • Comply with good manufacturing practices (GMP) as required.
  • Comply with Dart Container's policies and procedures.
  • Follow practices and processes intended to provide safe products that comply with appropriate laws and regulations that meet the company quality standards, and serve the needs of our customers. This includes commitment to a process of continuous improvement.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and complete repairs on diesel engines as well as other parts of the trucks, such as brakes and steering mechanisms.
  • Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, and make adjustments using hand tools.
  • Install new ignition systems, align front wheels, change or recharge batteries, service air conditioning and replace transmissions and other parts using hand tools.
  • Perform lifting or towing attachments, hydraulic systems, shields, or other devices according to blueprints or schematic drawings.
  • Diagnose and repair trailer components such as doors, floors and side panels.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tractor and trailer equipment including routine technical repairs and completing repair orders.
  • Road test vehicles.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers, supervisors and management.
  • Perform basic electrical functions on trucks.
  • Perform basic computer functions, document work order details within the company's internal order and billing program.
  • Drive, transport, and park tractor trailer trucks on company property and out on public roads.
  • Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined, including belts, hoses, steering systems, spark plugs, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, and other potentially troublesome areas.
  • Assure compliance with all safety, quality, and Good Manufacturing Practice requirements.
  • Perform other duties within the employee’s training and skills as directed by the supervisor and/or manager.

Core Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:

  • Demonstration of minimum proficiency with the English language in order to ensure effective new hire training and on-going communications about safety and quality issues.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to work weekends as needed.
  • Two (2) years of related diesel mechanic experience required, including, but not limited to, engine inspection and repair, transmission diagnosing and repair; diesel heating, ventilation and air conditioning inspection, diagnosing and repair; preventative maintenance, brakes, steering and suspension inspection, diagnosing and repair.
  • Six (6) months basic truck electrical system experience required.
  • Six (6) months computer experience required.
  • Must have basic math knowledge using decimals and fractions.
  • Must be able to obtain CDL Class A license within 12 months of employment.
