Job Description

The Network Engineer II's role is to administer and support Dart's global data communications network.  The position includes participation in the design, development, installation, proactive monitoring, optimization, maintenance and support of all network hardware, software, policies, procedures and associated systems.

Day-to-Day Role:

  • Assist and maintain the daily operations of our VoIP environment.
  • Troubleshoot issues pertaining to pots lines, PRI and SIP trunks.
  • Deploy and maintain WAN, LAN, Wireless, Voice and Video solutions and networks including servers, routers, switches, gateways and related hardware.
  • Troubleshoot escalated issues to identify and repair complex network issues for WAN, LAN, Voice, Video, Internet connections and end-user issues.
  • Communicate and coordinate network maintenance, operational status, and downtime to users and management.
  • Aid in the development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans, and maintain current knowledge of plan executables.  Respond to emergency network outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans assisting other departments as required.
  • Perform analysis of network needs and contribute to design of network architecture, integration, and installation.
  • Participate as a contributor in the implementation of Projects, taking direction from Network Architects, Senior Engineers and/or project leads.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation of network standards, configurations, procedures and cabling layouts.
  • Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services.
  • Monitor and identify network capacity and performance issues to maximize efficiency of company communication systems.
  • Perform system and equipment audits.
  • Recommend network design changes based upon system review, test results, monitoring data and company requirements
  • Participate in a 24/7 split on-call rotation providing technical support.

Core Skills and Qualifications:

The ideal candidate must possess all of the following:

  • Degreed Candidates:  A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field and at least five years of experience within the last seven years working in a multi-network, multi-protcol environment

    Non-Degreed Candidates:  High School Diploma or equivalent and at least six years of experience within the last nine years working in a multi-network, multi-protcol environment

    •Cisco CCNA certification

    •Detailed knowledge of PRI and SIP trunks

    •Working knowledge of BGP protocol

    •Strong understanding of call centers and call routing

    • Demonstrated advanced proficiency and experience in one or more of the following areas: Routing and Switching, Security, Wireless, Telephony, Video/Voice

    • Strong understanding of network QoS methods, markings and mitigation strategies

    • Ability to conduct research across a wide range of networking, telephony, video, security and wireless issues

    • Ability to effectively prioritize and direct the execution of tasks in a high-pressure environment

    •Ability to operate tools, components, peripherals, and testing equipment

    •Ability to read and interpret technical documents and procedure manuals

    • Ability to analyze network performance data to identify trends and potential problems, and support recommendations to modify and/or upgrade network equipment or services

    • Ability to effectively investigate and resolve issues starting with limited information

    •Requires personal accountability in order to accomplish goals

    • Ability to work with little supervision and perform in the best interest of the company

    •Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

    •Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    •Excellent interpersonal skills with a focus on listening and questioning

    • Ability to articulate technical and non-technical information to personnel with varying levels of technical knowledge

    •Strong attention to detail

    •Strong customer service orientation

    • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation, requiring availability 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 12 months a year

    •Ability to travel up to 25-50% of the time domestically and internationally

    •Requires a valid driver's license with favorable motor vehicle report

    •Requires the ability to obtain and maintain a passport
