Job Description


The Configuration Engineer (CE) is the owner of the system configuration for the assigned integration systems. Responsibility includes, but not limited to, the registration of all hardware and software to be built in and out of the system. The CE will assist with movement of materials to the machines to facilitate the execution of Engineering Changes (ECs) and Upgrade/Availability Packages (UP/AP). Also, the CE will us SAP to maintain the As built configuration for one or many machines. Regular configuration audits will be required to validate the accuracy of machine As-Built Bill of Materials (BOMs). The CE will support the Upgrade Project Lead and will work closely with Machine owners to maintain configuration. Supports engineering, research and development, and manufacturing in the testing of optical, mechanical and electrical modules and sub-systems, and the integration and test of complex systems.


Maintains the documented As Built configuration of one or many machines.
Produces configuration status to management on a regular basis. May be asked to explain configurations baselines and correlate these to system level configurations.
Audits As Built machines on a regular basis.
Works with Integration Engineering to define test configurations as part of the test plan specification.
Produces clear, concise documentation in defined ASML/Cymer formats.
May be assigned to a special project, such as system upgrades, working under descriptive instructions.
Responsible for safe lab operation.
Gathers information from drawings, specifications and design engineers necessary to verify configuration baselines and changes.
Participates in acceptance testing the design.
Assists in qualifying product for shipment.
Assist creation of description instructions for system service activities including complex upgrades.
May provide configuration education to customer's service and operations staff.
Ensures that parts are available and as specified for service and upgrade requirements.
Maintains appropriate tools are on hand and as required.
Travels as required for the purposes of performing configuration activities at customer sites or backfilling for other Cymer Field Service Engineers.
Completes service, expense reports, and other administrative responsibilities in accordance with ASML's procedures and with supervisor's approval.
Uses company technical documentation and provides feedback for improvement and assists in creating technical service documentation.
Interacts with cross-functional groups (engineers and scientists, worldwide customer support personnel, manufacturing personnel, upper management, marketing, external customers). Crosses functional boundaries and builds constructive and effective relationships throughout the whole organization. QUALIFICATIONS

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Performs data collection, statistical analysis, and report summarization. Effectively reports problems through written and/or graphical formats.
Excellent customer service skills, with an advanced understanding of customer relationship building.
Ability to use MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, CAD Drawing (ORCAD, AUTOCAD, and/or Visio), and electronic e-mail systems.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Requires the ability to read and interpret engineering specifications, maintenance manuals and engineering sketches.
Ability to use routine software applications such as MS Word and MS Excel to produce reports and graphs is required.
Ability to write notes in a laboratory journal listing daily activities and write weekly report summarizing accomplishments.
Possesses good oral presentation skills and be able to effectively present results in a team meeting.
Plan activities and execute to schedules established by program.


General proficiency with tools, systems, and procedures required to accomplish the job. May need to consult with higher level staff members on some technical issues.

BS in Optical Engineering Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Physics, Applied Physics, or Mechanical Engineering.
Knowledge and experiences in optics, laser-induced plasma, optical metrology, and/or controls of such devices preferred.
Experiences with vacuum system a plus.
Experiences in semiconductor equipment development a strong plus.
