A starting salary up to $30.77/hour ($64,220/year) plus a cash allowance up to $600/month*
Note: This recruitment is being conducted to fill a full-time position at the Department Information Technician I or II level. If you are interested in applying at the II level, you will need to apply to the separate, concurrent recruitment being conducted.

The Position
As a Department Information System Technician you provide technical support duties involving the management, operation, installation, setup, maintenance, and ordering of hardware and software systems including printers, scanners, phones, cell phones, and fax machines.  Additionally, this position will assist with managing the department's website content, tracking department technology to ensure proper billing, and:
  • Provide technical assistance, troubleshooting, and problem-resolution activities for software programs including communicating issues with vendors, the county information system department, the courts, and law enforcement agencies
  • Assist with data and system projects, including the District Attorney's case management system, PROSECUTOR by Karpel.
  • Help with creation of system training documentation, training videos, and conduct trainings
  • Create data queries and run reports for management team to meet grant program data reporting requirements
  • Move staff computers and other hardware, including providing basic-level ergonomic workstation setup

This recruitment is being conducted to fill one Department Information Systems Technician I/II position in the County of Sonoma District Attorney's Office.  This employment list may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, or extra-help (temporary) positions as they occur during the active status of the list.  Qualified County employees who wish to be considered for future positions should consider applying to this recruitment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Any combination of education and training which would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally this would include:
  • The equivalent to completion of nine semester or twelve quarter units in information systems, computer science or a closely related field 
  • Two years of full-time experience performing computer systems support, at least one year of which included configuring, installing, monitoring and maintaining systems components in a multi-platform information systems environment.

License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including necessary special endorsements, as required by the State of California to perform the essential job functions of the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of: Customer support techniques; basic network principles; commonly used software applications; system performance monitoring; troubleshooting; technical documentation methods and procedures; IT systems components and architecture; IT systems security methods and techniques; oral and written communication techniques; network equipment, tools and peripherals; operating systems installation and configuration procedures; and server maintenance techniques.

Ability to: communicate factual and procedural information clearly, orally and in writing; gather and analyze basic facts and draw conclusions; install, configure, and test software on customer workstations; identify and resolve issues and problems; prepare and update manuals, instructions, and operating procedures; provide information and assistance to customers; ensure the application of appropriate security measures in accord with established procedures; assist in implementing and maintaining network and systems services; monitor network and systems performance and troubleshoot basic problems; maintain database operations; create reports and manipulate data in response to customer requirements; and carry out server maintenance functions.

 The selection procedure will consist of the following examination:
An Application & Supplemental Questionnaire Appraisal Examination (weight 100%) will be conducted to evaluate each applicant's application and supplemental questionnaire for satisfaction of minimum qualifications (pass/not pass); and for educational coursework, training, experience, knowledge, and abilities which relate to this position. Each applicant will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Relevance of work history, related experience, and achieved level of education and/or training as described in the application and responses to the supplemental questions. 

Candidates demonstrating possession of the minimum qualifications will be placed on an employment list in order of most qualified to least qualified based on the achieved score received in the Application & Supplemental Questionnaire Appraisal Examination. Scores may be adjusted based on such factors as number of candidates, anticipated vacancies, past practice, and natural breaks in the scores achieved by this group of candidates.
