The County of Sonoma Information Systems Department (ISD) is seeking Information Technology Analyst IIs (ITA II) to join their Client Support Services Team in their Technical Services Division. Client Support Services includes the Service Desk and Desktop Support Teams. This group works closely with the Network Services and Data Center Operations Teams. The ITA II is responsible for the troubleshooting and triage of technical issues via phone, email, chat, or in person. The ITA II is a strong team player, has excellent customer service and technical skills, and the ability to adapt to changing systems. The ITA II in these positions will:

  • Install, configure, upgrade, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain desktop/laptop computers, peripherals, applications and software, including applications unique to the departments
  • Respond to, evaluate and troubleshoot inquiries, and problems for end-users on hardware, software, and county-wide systems
  • Provide training to county staff, including conducting one-one-one training
  • Develop online documentation for knowledgebase
  • Perform remote and/or on-site diagnostics and troubleshooting
  • Perform basic network administration duties, such as adding network users and assigning identification, security and access levels; and creating, modifying and deleting network accounts, Internet, e-mail, and other accounts
  • Collaborate to analyze the effectiveness of systems and to make recommendations for systems and procedural improvements

The ideal candidate will have the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users and possess strong knowledge of:

  • Techniques, equipment and diagnostic software/utilities used in the assembly, troubleshooting, and repair of computers, printers, and smartphones/ tablets
  • Standard Windows-based desktop software (Win 8/10, Office)
  • Internet protocols and services such as VPN, WWW, FTP, DNS, SMTP or others
  • PowerShell experience a plus
  • The ability to make recommendations for systems and procedural improvements and to prepare on-line bulletins to inform users

This recruitment is being conducted to fill 2 full-time positions in the Information Systems Department. This employment list may also be used to fill future full-time, part-time, or extra-help (temporary) positions as they occur during the active status of the list. 

Please note: These positions may be required to have access to Sheriff's Office or Probation Department facilities or view data or work with information systems for these departments. This requires that a more extensive "Security Clearance" will be performed after hire. Successful completion of the probationary period will be contingent upon passing the security clearance, which includes a Live Scan fingerprint-based check of California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) criminal records. If you are offered a position which requires a security clearance, the job offer letter will clearly specify this as a condition of the probationary period.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Any combination of education and training which would provide the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Normally, academic coursework and/or formal training in computer science, information systems, network systems or a closely related field would provide this opportunity.

Experience: Any combination of training and experience which would provide an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and abilities listed. Information Technology Analyst I Normally one year of experience in computer systems support, desktop/user support, technical support, or networking support would provide this opportunity. Information Technology Analyst II--normally, two years of technical professional experience involving technical support, systems or operations analysis, or similar field in a multi-platform information technology environment or one year of experience as an Information Technology Analyst I with the County of Sonoma. Specific experience related to the work of the assigned division may be required. Additional, highly relevant professional level experience may be substituted for the required education at either level.

License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including necessary special endorsements, as required by the State of California to perform the essential job functions of the position. Certification in networking technology or other specialized area related to area of assignment is desirable for some assignments.

Working knowledge and understanding of: software packages and operating systems commonly used on personal computers and networked systems including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, file recovery, backup, and other utilities; principles and practices of software and hardware installation and repair; computer operations, including operating systems and software products; local and wide area network installation, management, security, and operation; methods and techniques of troubleshooting hardware, software and inter-connectivity problems; principles and practices of training system users; principles and practices of assuring data security; methods and techniques of providing support to users.

Ability to: Identify, analyze and define information technology needs, collect information, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; provide technical support in area of expertise; identify, troubleshoot, analyze and resolve customer/user problems; understand, interpret, and explain hardware and software application solutions to users; research technical materials to provide solutions to problems; write and modify instructions, procedures, manuals, documentation; understand and respond to problems related to data communications, networks and systems interconnectivity; work cooperatively and effectively with staff, customers, vendors, and the public; effectively listen and communicate information to persons with diverse knowledge and experience; perform a variety of tasks in a consistent and accurate manner; read, analyze and take corrective action or refer problems to appropriate staff in response to error messages, codes, and abends in the mainframe, network and personal computing platforms; prepare clear, concise and accurate oral and written reports.
