Job Description

Social Service Worker III Extra-Help $28.12 - $34.19 per hour 

The Human Services Department (HSD) seeks a qualified professional social worker to fill a temporary, extra help Social Services Worker III (SSW III) position.

Note: If you are a County employee interested in applying for the regular help SSW III positions, you must apply to the separate, concurrent recruitment. 

This position will be assigned to HSD's Adult and Aging Division. SSW III's in this Division are assigned a more complex elderly and/or disabled client caseload. They facilitate coordination of services with internal and external partners, provide community education and outreach, and may assume lead level responsibilities with junior staff and volunteers.

SSW III's may be assigned to Adult and Aging's In-Home Support Services program, which provides in-home care to low-income, elderly, and disabled individuals, thereby enabling them to remain safely and independently in their homes. SSW III's in this assignment perform client assessments of functional abilities and make determinations related to client care.

The ideal candidate will have a related degree and four years of progressively responsible professional social work experience. The successful candidate will have experience developing and creating outreach plans and presentations, strong public speaking skills, and sharp analytical skills.

Extra-Help Employment

Extra-help employees relieve or augment permanent staff. Temporary, extra-help employees are not in the classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanently allocated positions. In addition, they do not receive most employee benefits such as: long-term disability insurance coverage; accrual of vacation; participation in the County retirement program; or eligibility to take promotional examinations. Temporary, extra-help employees are limited in their employment to a maximum of one calendar year. These employees must be off of work for three months before they can be re-employed on an extra help basis. Extra-help employees who meet the eligibility requirements may qualify for a County contribution toward medical coverage. This employment list may also be used to fill future extra-help (temporary) vacancies as they occur during the active status of the list.
