Job Description

Job Summary

The Information Technology Intern will work with the Information Management team as a Jr. Data Engineer and will have exposure to Continental's next generation Advanced Analytics solution. As an Information Technology Intern, this position will be expected to work with internal customers to (1) gather business and data requirements for a pre-determine advanced analytics use case, (2) design and model the analytical solution that meets the pre-defined needs of the customer, and (3) deliver a working prototype of their proposed design.

Business/Technology Exposure:

The Information Technology Intern will have exposure to the following IT technologies processes:


* Infrastructure: Amazon Web Services
* Administration: Hadoop (Cloudera)
* Integration: Sqoop, Oozi, Mulesoft, Kafka
* Data Storage: HDFS/S3, Hive, Kudu, Impala, NoSQL
* Reporting: Spotfire, Excel
* Development: R, Python
* Business Tools: Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio


* Software Development Lifecycle
* Project Management
* Business Requirements
* Data Integration (streaming and batch)
* Data Quality Management
* Data Mining
* Data Governance and Control
* Change Management


The Information Technology Intern will have the following duties and responsibilities:

* Meeting with internal CLR customers to document specific business and technical requirements.
* Design and model a solution that meets the needs of the documented requirements.
* Develop a task plan that shows both individual and external tasks to develop a solution to meet the needs of the customer.
* Create a prototype of the proposed solution.
* Present solution to both the internal business customer and IT Leadership.


The successful candidate should obtain most, if not all, of the following skills or qualifications:

* Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or Mathematics Degree Family
* Current enrollment in 4-year college or university
* Minimum 3.0 GPA for consideration (transcripts required)
* Strong interest in building upon current skillsets that center around all things data (Data Administration, Data Governance, Data Migration, Data Integration, Data Quality Management, Data Mining, Data Engineering, and Data Science)
* Has a desire to learn, build upon, development skills (such as R and Python)
* Strong communication skills (both written and oral)
* Analytical thinking/problem solving
* Strong customer focus and a team player
* Possess good time management skills
* Professional appearance and demeanor
* Eligible to work permanently in the United States upon graduation
* An acceptable pre-employment background and drug test
