General

Tryon Palace

Historic Interpreters Part Time Position

Historic Interpreters are responsible for interacting with, engaging, and educating visitors throughout Tryon Palace. These functions include: leading guided tours for the general public and tour groups (both school and adult tours); facilitating self-paced tour experiences; portraying 18thand 19thcentury life and participating in specialized tours, such as monthly “Outlander” tours. Work is performed in a variety of historic buildings and the North Carolina History Center. Historic Interpreter candidates should be interested in learning about history, talking with people of all ages, providing excellent customer service, and helping visitors enjoy their experience at our site. Historic Interpreters are temporary employees (i.e., without benefits) of the state of North Carolina with starting pay at minimum wage. Applicant must be available for weekend, evening and holiday work as needed, and most of the up to 29 hours of work for these positions, will be Thursday through Sunday.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Skills required: Conduct scheduled demonstrations and guided tours. Facilitate self-paced touring experiences. Provide excellent customer service to all visitors. Perform other duties as assigned. 

Training & Experience Requirements:
Candidate must have a high school diploma or GED.
