Sudbury Water District Vacancy 

The Sudbury Water District is currently seeking to fill one laborer position.

Essential Duties:

  • Digs holes and ditches with shovel and other hand tools.
  • Works on water crew learning to perform manual labor in installing, repairing and maintaining water lines, valves, meters, pumps and water taps, flush and repair hydrants, assist with backflow prevention, complete line mark outs, maintenance, repairs, cleaning and yard restoration
  • Responsible for keeping site and grounds at plants clean and neat.
  • Performs work safely in accordance with district safety procedures and operates equipment safely. Reports any unsafe work condition or practice to the Foreman.
  • Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of various equipment, gravel and sand.
  • Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.
  • Operates light and medium-sized construction and power equipment, such as cut-off saws, mechanized broom and tampers.
  • Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
  • Participates in skills and safety training related to the maintenance, construction and repair of the water system.
  • Responds to emergency calls at all hours.
  • Be available to report for work for after hour emergencies and be included on the on-call rotation at a minimum of one (1) week a month.

Qualified candidates should possess a valid Class D license. Experience with computers, electricity and pumps helpful, a general understanding of techniques of drinking water chemistry as well as general knowledge of water mains and water disinfection is helpful. Must be willing to obtain MA Drinking Water Licenses, or have one. Must be available to respond to emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and for scheduled overtime every fourth weekend.
