The Department of Health and Exercise Science is one of eight academic programs in the College of Health and Human Sciences. Colorado State University is Colorado's land grant institution and holds the Doctoral/Research University - Extensive classification from the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education. Health and Exercise Science is focused on a tripartite mission of undergraduate and graduate teaching, research and scholarly work and outreach/engagement/service. We are committed to our goal of producing nationally and internationally recognized research programs and graduates that are focused on helping people protect and improve their health and quality of life throughout the lifespan. The Department has ~1250 undergraduate majors, 30-35 M.S. and Ph.D. students and 23 tenured, tenure-track and special appointment faculty. Faculty in the Department of Health and Exercise Science conduct innovative research with an emphasis on basic, translational, and clinical work in the area of chronic and age-related disease. The Human Performance Clinical Research Laboratory, a CSU Program of Research and Scholarly Excellence, is a center for interdisciplinary research, training, and outreach. The department is also heavily invested in community-focused engagement; the Heart Disease Prevention Program, Adult Fitness Program, Noon Hour Fitness Program, Youth Sports Camps and an After-School program.

Position Summary

The Department of Health and Exercise Science at CSU is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Communications Specialist to manage internal and external communication efforts, including the development of an overall communications strategy across print and digital channels to reach various audiences. This position is responsible for developing marketing and student recruiting materials, website and social media content, and advancement communications with alumni and faculty emeriti. The successful candidate may supervise student employees as needed. This position will report to the Department Head of Health and Exercise Science and provide communication support to the various undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as outreach programs and centers, within the department. Other duties as assigned.

Required Job Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field
* Excellent writing and editing skills
* Experience in developing and revising website content
* Experience with developing, organizing, and writing content for newsletters and brochures
* Graphic design skills
* Experience managing social media in an organizational marketing communications context
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments, establish priorities, and meet deadlines
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Preferred Job Qualifications

* Knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud
* Knowledge of WordPress
* Knowledge of web, social media, and marketing analytics
* Photography and videography skills
* Experience with email newsletters and marketing
* Ability to understand and communicate scientific information to a variety of audiences, with a focus on health, aging, and physical activity
* Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment that includes a variety of duties
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a commitment to excellence
* Ability to understand and relate to a variety of individual, group, and cultural perspectives
