Job Description


The Engineer III is a fully competent engineer in all conventional aspects of subject matter or functional area of technical assignments. Independently performs most assignments with instruction only regarding general expected results. Receives technical guidance for unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval of proposed project plans.

Represents the company in some communications with clients from initial effort and throughout entire course of agreement activity. Works within the Program Management Collins team at the Chicago Department of Transportation Division of Infrastructure management called the Project Coordination Office. May supervise a few engineers and/or technicians on a project basis.

* Ability to prepare and/or review civil designs plans, specifications and estimates for both public and private sector clients
* Reviews technical documents are in compliance with state and local codes, laws, ordinances and agency requirements
* Assists, manages, develops and maintains new and existing public and private sector clients
* Technical experience in Transportation and/or Civil engineering
* SUE engineering and program management experience background is a plus
* Aids in the development, coordination and management of project schedules
* Ability to supervise and provide mentorship of the work of entry-level engineers and/or drafters
* Ability to quickly adapt and make well-informed independent decisions
* Plans, schedules, conducts, and/or coordinates detailed phases of assigned project work
* Takes an increasingly responsible role in the management of the projects
* Has the ability to act as the Project Manager on small projects
* Assists in preparing project scoping and costs for proposals
* Represents Collins in project coordination meetings
* Be active in technical societies
* Be available to attend meetings or events outside of normal working hours
* Knows how to perform his/her duties safely
* Other duties may be assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year university, plus appropriate continuing education
* Minimum of 5 years of experience
* Has proficient knowledge in engineering software: Microstation and AutoCAD Civil 3D, Synchro, HCS, TransCAD, and GEOPAK
* Professional Engineer (P.E.)

Desired Qualifications:

* Experience working with Chicago Department of Transportation
* IDOT Phase 2 plan development
* SUE engineering
