Job Description


The Entry Level Engineer - Civil performs assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. Reports to a Project Engineer or Project Manager.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

* Performs design and / or inspection/field work that does not require previous experience.
* Assists in the completions of reports.
* Prepares design computations and quantity estimates.
* Keeps Project Engineer or Project Managers informed of work load and any changes to project scope or additional services.
* Instructs draftspersons / technicians to reduce designs to working drawings.
* Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
* Be active in Technical societies.
* Be able to attend meetings or events outside of normal working hours.
* Has some communication with clients.
* Knows how to perform his/her duties safely.

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year university plus appropriate continuing education and 0-4 years of experience.


Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write technical reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.


Ability to define problems, collect data, evaluate facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

While in the field, the employee may be required to walk in rugged conditions, work in adverse weather conditions, and stand up to eight hours or more at a time.
