Job Description

Nature of Work

Our mission at Community Services is "Empowering well-being and prosperity in Coconino communities." We do this with various programs that support financially challenged community members. These programs include utility and rental assistance, financial literacy and coaching, senior meals, senior home care services, business development course, and matched savings grants for post-secondary education and business, among other programs. We have office locations in Flagstaff, Williams, Page, Fredonia, but are available to clients throughout Coconino County.

We are hiring interns for Fall, 2019 for various departments. If you are interested in a career in public service, customer service, social science, and/or social work and would like to gain more knowledge and experience, please consider the following unpaid internship opportunities for Fall 2019.

COMMUNITY SERVICES CUSTOMER SERVICE INTERN:

Under supervision performs clerical and general office work.

COMMUNITY SERVICES MARKETING INTERN:

Under supervision performs outreach and marketing for department programs.

COMMUNITY SERVICES MARKETING for K2P PROGRAM INTERN:

Under supervision performs outreach and marketing for department programs

COMMUNITY SERVICES SENIOR SERVICES INTERN:

Under supervision assists with programming preparation and delivery of service

Typical Duties

COMMUNITY SERVICES CUSTOMER SERVICE INTERN:

* Searches records for information and disburses information via phone calls and direct contact with the public and other agencies
* Formats and prepares routine correspondence, forms, records and other materials
* Preparing forms and packets for classes
* Administrative functions

Additional duties may include preparing forms, packets for classes, and other related administrative functions. Ideal candidates are interested in or studying public service, customer service, social science, social work.

COMMUNITY SERVICES MARKETING INTERN:

* Outreach, marketing, and recruitment for future Basic Business Empowerment (BBE) course
* Assist with the development of a distance delivery version of the BBE course
* Assist with enrollment applications for the program and answer questions
* Some public speaking would be required

COMMUNITY SERVICES MARKETING for K2P PROGRAM INTERN:

* Outreach and marketing for Keys to Prosperity financial coaching program
* Prepare materials for participants, set up for courses
* To attend and participate in financial literacy and coaching workshops
* Administrative functions
* Some public speaking would be required
* Willingness to connect with other college students is a plus. Additionally, intern would learn about running the front desk and serve clients directly.

COMMUNITY SERVICES SENIOR SERVICES INTERN:

* Assisting with setup/cleanup
* Food preparation and serving
* Learn about program eligibility
* Socialize with the Senior participants
* Attend senior trips
* Health and nutrition presentations

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for this program, you need to be a full-time or part-time Freshman, Sophomore, Junior or Senior in a graduate or undergraduate program. You must possess a positive attitude with a strong desire to learn. Good presentation, writing and research skills are key to success in this position.

All Psychology, Sociology, Geography, Family & Consumer Science, Human & Child Development, Anthropology, Cognition & Neuroscience/Biopsychology, Counseling, Social Work/Human Services, Communication Disorders Sciences & Services, Medicine, Nursing, Dietetics, Healthcare Technology, Veterinary Sciences, Athletic Training, Dentistry, Health/Exercise Science, Health/Hospital Administration, Kinesiology, Movement Science, Nutrition, Pharmacy, Physical/Occupational Therapy, Public Health, and Speech Pathology majors.

* Public Speaking
* Utilizing varying methods of communication to reach participants
* The use of technology to deliver out of area programming

Ideal candidates are interested in or studying financial literacy and social services.

COMMUNITY SERVICES SENIOR SERVICES INTERN:

* Needs and problems of disabled, elderly and low-income individuals
* Geriatrics
* Interpersonal communication with culturally diverse clients
* Demonstrate tact, initiative, and sound judgment

Ideal candidates are interested in or studying social services, social work, health/nutrition, or gerontology
