Job Overview/Summary

Position Summary:

As a Process Development Intern for Burt's Bees, you will work with a team of engineers and scientists located in Durham, North Carolina to deliver and maintain a robust pipeline of innovative personal care and cosmetic products for this fast paced, exciting and growing business. You will have a variety of assignments within the Burt's Bees Product Lab, Pilot Plant, and Manufacturing facility. This is a full time position, with the expectation that you will work 40 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

* Work closely Process Development team to identify and execute against opportunities to develop pilot equipment and lab capabilities
* Support R&D Process Team in running pilot batches and initial production of new products
* Support efforts to improve upon manufacturing efficiencies of existing products
* Define and use SOPs, best practices and test methods to ensure a robust and rigorous development process.
* Help analyze and interpret data to meet project targets and objectives, and make recommendations that drive efficiency and manage risk.

Key Skills, Abilities and Experience Required

Required Qualifications & Skills:

* Majors: BS in Chemical, Biochemical, Biomedical, or Materials Science Engineering Program
* Experience and familiarity in a chemistry lab
* Experience in manufacturing facility or pilot lab is preferred
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Proven ability to learn fast
* Demonstrated strong leadership and influencing skills
* Excellent organization skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and effectively
* Confident self-starter, capable of working independently and cross-functionally with minimal supervision and direction in a fast paced environment is a must



Special Requirements:

Candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher. Offers of employment are contingent upon proof of the applicant's legal right to work and be employed in the United States as a full time employee after graduation.

Internships may include the following:

* Working in lab with various materials, including dust -- up to 50% of the time
* Sitting in an office environment using a computer up to 50% of the time
* Fine motor skills to prototype samples up to 25% of the time
* Must be able to lift up to 25 to 50lbs up to 25% of the time
* Use analytical skills to drive conclusions -- up to 50% of the time
