POSITION DETAILS

The Counseling Center at Eugenio Maria de Hostos provides ongoing personal counseling for registered Hostos Students on an individual and group basis. Counseling is provided in a private, confidential, and supportive environment in which students may focus on issues and concerns which may be hindering successful academic achievement and personal development. The Counseling Center maintains a close collaborative relationship with instructional faculty and staff who are frequent sources of referral.

The Counseling Center seeks applications for a Student Psychological Counselor, reporting directly to the Student Counseling Director. In addition to the CUNY Title Overview duties, the successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

* Provides consultation and referrals for faculty, staff and students.


* Provides supervision and training to graduate students.


* Collaborates with community mental health agencies and hospitals to facilitate community-based services for Hostos Community College affiliated clients and maintains the directory of services.


* Participates with college and division wide strategic planning, assessment, orientation and enrollment activities.



QUALIFICATIONS

A Doctoral degree in Psychology to include Ph.D. and Psy.D. programs

OR

A Master's degree in an appropriate discipline for personal or psychological counseling and a New York State license as a mental health practitioner (social work, psychology, or mental health counseling).

In addition, six years' professional experience is required for all candidates and experience working with diverse populations.

* Provides psychological counseling to individuals and groups of students


* Performs crisis intervention for emergency situations


* Performs intake and assessment for personal counseling services


* Consults with instructional and administrative staff regarding student mental health issues; may prepare and present outreach initiatives and workshops


* Participates in recommending improvements that will impact the counseling center's effectiveness


* Performs related duties as assigned.
