Job Description


New York City College of Technology of the City University of New York (CUNY) is a comprehensive college of over 17,000 students in downtown Brooklyn, offering associate and baccalaureate degree in technology and health related degree programs, other career-oriented degrees and liberal arts transfer degrees in its Schools of Arts and Sciences, Technology and Design, and Professional Studies. The Chemistry Department offers an associate degree in chemical technology and a bachelor of science in Applied Chemistry. We invite candidates to apply for an Assistant Professor tenure-track position to begin in the 2018-2019 academic year. This position requires a commitment to teaching, research and other scholarly pursuits, service to the college, and student advisement. City Tech offers opportunity for professional development through collaborations with the larger CUNY community.

Responsibilities include:

* Preparation and presentation of lectures in general chemistry and the ability to each successfully

* Assist with development of a new course for advanced undergraduate students.

* Assist with development of a research program that will involve undergraduate students and work with these students in the area of applied chemical science.

* Provide professional advice and guidance to students.

* Share responsibility for committee and department assignments, including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.


Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field is required by the time of appointment in late August 2018, as is demonstrated teaching experience.

Preferred qualifications

* Demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

* Postdoctoral or industry experience in a field of applied chemical science

* Strong expertise in chromatography or spectroscopy
