Job Description

Maintenance Worker I-Streets

Salary:            $27,787.00 - $33,345.00 Annually



Responsible for performing manual labor to ensure City streets are maintained in safe, working order.


Essential & Ancillary Job Duties:

Essential Job Duties
• Perform laborious tasks in the process of pouring concrete surfaces necessary to build, maintain, or repair streets.
• Shovel, set, rake, sweep, and clean street surfaces.
• Perform laborious tasks in the process of laying asphalt surfaces necessary to build, maintain, or repair streets.
• Operate a variety of motorized, power, and hand-powered machines and equipment.
• Assist in the maintaining of traffic control systems, including painting and striping streets and curbs, as well as installing sign posts and signs.
• Perform snow removal operations on a 24-hour call basis.  Plow snow and spread salt as needed. Mandatory participation in on-call rotation with emergency and urgent condition response time of 30 minutes or less.
• Install, repair, maintain, and inspect storm sewers, lines, manholes, culverts, drainage ditches, and storm drains. 
• Clean and maintain streets by hauling debris and trash.
Ancillary Job Duties
• Monitor and report hazardous conditions to maintain public safety.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications & Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Job Qualifications
Education, experience and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire.  An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.  Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in construction, street maintenance, or related field.
• Current Class B CDL with air brake endorsement required or ability to obtain within 120 days of employment. Must have passed written examination prior to date of hire.
• 1 or more years heavy equipment operating experience preferred.
• Certification to operate a forklift or ability to obtain within 120 days of employment required.
• Certification Work Zone Safety or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills and abilities commonly associated with this position.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Incode, and other City software.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to use good judgment and think quickly and rationally in difficult or stressful situations.
• Excellent customer service skills.

Work Environment
Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the duties of this job.

• Primarily an outdoor work environment.
• Exposed to loud noise levels.
