The City of San Bruno Police Department is currently recruiting for part-time, per diem Police Clerks. This is an hourly, seasonal/temporary, per-diem position with no benefits (with the exception of the state-mandated paid sick leave). Under direction of the Records and Communications Supervisor, Police Clerks perform clerical functions related to the operation of the Police Department including entering and maintaining records in the new Records Management System (RMS) and providing customer service by phone and in person, while maintaining a high level of confidentiality. Police Clerks are also responsible for receiving business and emergency calls, preparing confidential documents for submission to Court and the District Attorney, and booking and fingerprinting people arrested for non-violent offenses. Police Clerks may be assigned to day or swing shift on a regular basis that includes nights, weekends, and holidays. This position is integral in supporting the goals and objectives of the City and Police Department.


* Must be at least 18 years of age
* Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent. Additional related college course work or degree preferred.
* Typing certificate issued within the last year verifying minimum typing speed of forty-five (45) net words per minute. Typing certificate must be submitted with application to be considered complete. An in-person typing test will be administered to finalists.
* At least one (1) year of work experience public interaction and customer service, but no previous Police Clerk experience is required.


* Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California driver's license
* Ability to pass an extensive police background investigation
* RIMS experience is a plus


The ideal candidate will possess the ability to perform a variety of responsible office support work related to law enforcement, use good judgment and multi-task in a busy, fast-paced environment, record and maintain information with speed and accuracy, quickly learn new material, make quick and sensible decisions, learn from constructive criticism, possess a high commitment to quality service, and participate in a team approach to law enforcement. The candidate will be able to successfully complete the department training program, operate a computer and complex software programs, type at a net speed of 45 words per minute, and accurately gather information via telephone and in person. The ideal candidate will be respectful and sensitive towards the cultural and ethnic diversity of the community, and will work well with the general public under stressful or emergency conditions, and be able to speak, write, and read clearly and fluently.
