THE POSITION The City of Pasadena Water and Power Department is excited to invite you to apply for a career opportunity in the Power Delivery division. The ideal candidate will be interested in changing technology, excited to learn, and ready to program. Our new team member will perform a variety of professional electrical distribution engineering work. The current vacancies will be filled at the Assistant Engineer or Associate Engineer level depending on experience and qualifications. An Assistant Engineer may be promoted to an Associate Engineer, consistent with the sliding classification concept, upon meeting the minimum requirements for the position and recommendation of the department head. Assistant Engineer: $36.30 - $45.38 Hourly $2,904.22 - $3,630.25 Biweekly $6,292.47 - $7,865.54 Monthly $75,509.62 - $94,386.45 Annually The Assistant Engineer is the entry-level class in the professional engineering series. Initially under immediate supervision, incumbents are responsible for the less complex office and field assignments with an emphasis on training. With experience and training, the work becomes progressively more diversified and difficult and requires increasing independence of judgment. This class is distinguished from the Associate Engineer in that the latter works with less supervision and is considered experienced in performing the work. Associate Engineer: $42.25 - $52.81 Hourly $3,379.62 - $4,224.52 Biweekly $7,322.50 - $9,153.13 Monthly $87,870.02 - $109,837.52 Annually The Associate Engineer is the experienced, non-registered professional engineer in the engineering series. The incumbent performs journey-level work and is expected to conduct independent engineering studies, perform analysis and make recommendations, and develop plans and proposals for current and future regulatory compliance. The incumbent is expected to exercise a considerable amount of independent judgment in designing plans and making general engineering and plan checking calculations for projects, monitoring contracts for compliance with engineering standards and specifications. This class is distinguished from the Engineer in that the latter requires the California Registration as a Professional Engineer.

Essential Functions:

Prepares and reviews electrical engineering designs, distribution circuit diagrams and electrical service connections; and reviews wiring diagrams, control schematics and protection relay settings for substations and generating plants Reviews request for proposals, contract documents, specifications, project schedules and estimates Evaluates bids, prepares agenda reports to purchase equipment or engineering and constructions services and for contract awards, oversees contractors, initiates change order documents, exercises cost control and monitors schedules Obtains permits for operations, coordinates projects with other departments, outside agencies, contractors and consultants Makes engineering calculations in connection with field and office assignments, investigates problems and recommends solutions Ensures compliance with safety requirements and standards and recommends procedures Performs systems analysis, conducts tests and studies and submits results and recommendations for planning, uses computer technology to plan and solve engineering problems, quality assurance and control, highly specialized design, research, or analysis on a project-by-project basis Advises on code compliance Performs economic feasibility studies Reviews and inspects work in progress to ensure compliance with standards and specifications Estimates cash flow projections, and maintains effective working relationships with field crews, contractors, vendors, outside agencies, the public and City staff

Qualification Guidelines:

Education and/or Experience Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for acceptable job performance. Example combinations include: Assistant Engineer : graduation from college with a major in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field. An Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers may substitute for the college degree. Associate Engineer : graduation from college with a major in electrical engineering, computer science, or related field and two (2) or more years of electric utility or industrial power system related experience in the field of electrical engineering with an emphasis on distribution design. Selection Process Applicants who appear best qualified based on their application submitted will be invited to any combination of written, performance or oral appraisal to further evaluate their job-related experience, education, knowledge, skills and abilities. Probationary work test period is one year. Vacancies There is currently one vacancy in the Power Delivery division of the Water and Power Department . As a result of the selection process, an eligible list of candidates may be established to fill this vacancy and other similar vacancies that may occur in the next several months.

Special Requirements:

Possession of or ability to obtain a Class C California driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. Must possess a valid Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or equivalent work experience for consideration of Associate Engineer level.
