Job Description

The principal function of this class is to provide a learning opportunity to students interested in working in a public service field. This position can include analytical and administrative services in support of department and city-wide programs and projects related to a student's area of study. Incumbents, as assigned by position and supervisor may be responsible for performing project research and recommendations; preparing information and/or supporting documents for meetings or projects; maintaining databases; providing technical assistance; participating in community outreach; and facilitating internal and/or external customer service. This position will perform work under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor.

Acceptable Experience and Training

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Must be enrolled in an educational institution (secondary or post-secondary) or have graduated within the last 3 months. Level of education and experience needed will vary based on assignment requirements.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:

Depending on assignment, some positions may require:

* Possession of a valid State Driver's License and safe driving record.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

The City of Hillsboro is accepting applications for a Jackson Bottom Enviornmental Education Intern position. Under the supervision of staff, this position is responsible for supporting the Jackson

Bottom Wetlands staff through interactive programming and administrative duties

Compensation

$13.42 - 14.52/hour

Hours

Part-time 25-30 hour/week.

Hours scheduled Monday-Friday

between 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.

General Description of Duties

* Assist the Jackson Bottom Wetlands staff with summer camp and environmental

education programming

* Help organize materials and prepare for programs
* Canoe activity support and photographing of various activities
* Encourage observation and inquiry among program participants
* Perform a variety of entry level administrative functions in support of assigned

programs.

Our ideal candidate will:

* Have previous work experience with children
* Have excellent customer service skills
* Be creative and patient
* Be organized and on time consistently
* Have basic computer skills, and be familiar with Microsoft Office

Requirements

* Must be currently enrolled in the PCC Future Connect Program or a high school student

in the Hillsboro School District interested in developing skills in any of the following

areas: administrative, natural resources, programming and/or education

* Must complete and pass criminal background check
* Have a driver's license and be able to drive a personal or company vehicle
* Must be at least 18 years of age and be able to commit to the entire internship
* Be able to work in a variety of locations, both indoors and outdoors
