Administrative Assistant

$15.38 - $16.61 per hour (depends on experience)

The purpose of this position is to provide administrative support at a senior level and to assist in coordinating the activities of the Public Works Department including, but not limited to, providing administrative support with performance evaluations, disciplinary proceedings, and employee concerns and problems; serving on the emergency response team for inclement weather events and assisting with FEMA reimbursement requests; acting as liaison with other departments and City officials; and providing administrative support for management staff including screening all communication, maintaining department calendars, and scheduling meetings.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED), supplemented by college-level course work or vocational training in business administration and bookkeeping; 
  • Minimum of two (2) years previous experience and/or training in office management, administrative work, customer service, record management, personal computer operations, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience;
  • Possession or ability to obtain and maintain a valid State of Alabama Notary Public certification; 
  • Be at least age 21, hold a valid Alabama driver's license, and be insurable by the City's insurance carrier.
