The Role

Christie's is currently accepting applications for our 18-week paid Internship program that will expose individuals to the art world and auction industry through hands-on experience.

Spring Internship Dates: January 13th, 2020 - May 22nd, 2020

All full-time positions require a commitment of approximately 40 hours per week. All part-time positions require a commitment of approximately 24 hours per week.

Please be mindful of your schedule and/or course load before applying for an internship.

Specific duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to

* General department administrative tasks as assigned by Sale Coordinators
* Keeping all data up to date in Christie's internal systems
* Assisting specialists with provenance research, managing the department library and consignor files.
* Researching works for upcoming sales - including both traditional research, using Christie's onsite libraries, as well as public libraries in New York City, and also online research using auction databases and other internet sources
* Assist Cataloguers with cataloguing and condition checks for consigned property
* Supporting the proposal preparation process
* Attending "hilling" sessions, during which our specialists review works and share their knowledge
* Assist with installing for auction previews, which includes compiling, printing, and mounting lot cards for each work
* Support Specialists with client research; Artnet searches, compiling spreadsheets of competitive sales, and catalogue research for object intelligence

The Candidate

We are looking for hard-working, enthusiastic, and intellectually curious self-starters with strong research skills. Our most successful interns are those who truly embrace the experience and are not afraid to take every opportunity presented to them. As a smaller department, we rely heavily on our interns to contribute as a core part of the team, and to take on extra responsibilities where promise and interest is shown.

* Passion for the Arts
* Strategic and commercially minded
* Strong Knowledge of Microsoft Office
* Proficiency in Excel, with familiarity with Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, match formulas, and macros are a plus
* Additional language skills are desirable, however not mandatory
* Superior client service skills
* Strong follow-up and attention to detail
* Candidates must be undergraduate students, master's students, or within one year of graduation from University; either undergraduate or masters
* All candidates must be available for the entirety of the internship and should prepare for their schedules for the time and workload commitment
