Job Summary

The Center for Autism Research (CAR) is conducting a wide range of studies seeking to identify the causes of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and to explore effective interventions and other supports for families throughout the region who are affected by ASD. Working at CAR provides the opportunity to be a part of innovative, break-through research on a complex developmental disorder that affects 1 in 88 people in the United States. Most of the studies at CAR involve behavioral evaluations, brain imaging, and genetics aimed at explaining the underlying mechanisms of this complex disorder.  The Research Data Analyst who will report to will report to the Data Integration Specialist and Database Manager at the Center and work on a variety of tasks that support the Data Team. The Data Team performs a number of tasks related to the collection, protection, integration, analysis, reporting, and sharing of research data across many studies.

We are seeking a full-time Research Data Analyst who will report to will report to the Data Integration Specialist and Database Manager at the Center and work on a variety of tasks that support the Data Team. The Data Team performs a number of tasks related to the collection, protection, integration, analysis, reporting, and sharing of research data across many studies.

Responsibilities for the position include:
• Supporting researcher computational needs, including provisioning and supporting hardware and software
• Creating and optimizing data collection instruments in REDCap
• Cleaning and integrating data into a SQL data warehouse
• Using R, RStudio, Python, Octave, Matlab, etc. to organize and analyze data
• Interacting with researchers of all levels
• Developing web applications and other software
• Performing data discovery and data pulls
• Supporting the activities of the Data Team more generally

This position provides the opportunity to contribute to valuable research in the autism field as an early-career data scientist. Opportunities for other responsibilities, such as direct participant interaction in administering clinical protocols, programming, and other research activities, are available based on the applicant's experience and interests as well as the Center's needs.

This position provides an opportunity to be involved in a very high quality, high throughput evaluation clinic for children with autism.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (Preferred, not required)
• Background in math, programming, or computer science
• Experience with SQL (PL/SQL or MySQL experience preferred)
• Experience with R or RStudio, Python, or Octave / Matlab
• Experience with programming, data analysis, data visualization, or web design
• Ability to multitask, meet deadlines and pay attention to details
• Ability to troubleshoot and self-manage in computer-related tasks
• Ability to educate others and empower their own technical growth
• Self-motivated and interested in the research process
• Interest in psychology or child development
• Interested in utilizing computer science in a clinical research setting

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registrations

None

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in psychology or similar, with prior research experience; or a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a data-centric field of study such as informatics or data science, with prior research experience in psychology or social science.
• Exposure to research methods or research, while not required, is helpful.
• Experience with project coordination and oversight of volunteers or undergrad students preferred.
• Statistical knowledge and interest; ability to use script-driven statistical programming software (e.g., R, Python, Octave)
• Data format expertise including using Excel, CSV files, SQL (any variant), NoSQL (any variant), JSON, or other formats highly preferred.
• Ability to function independently in a clinical research setting, and to take active direction from a supervisor.
• A customer-service attitude and ability to solve problems under pressure.
• Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to contribute as a team player.
• Excellent organizational ability and ability to multi-task, handle deadline-related stress, meet deadlines, and pay attention to detail.
• Ability to handle confidential materials and promote the use of data and subject information in a compliant fashion
 

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic

Master's degree preferred.
