Minimum Work Experience

Specific Requirements and Preferences
Zero or up to two years related experience. Experience working in a medical or scientific research setting preferred. Lab experience is helpful.

Required Skills/Knowledge
Work requires good organizational skills, knowledge of basic mathematical, data collection and analysis, and research principles.

Functional Accountabilities

Responsible Conduct of Research
  1. Consistently demonstrate adherence with the standards for the responsible conduct of research.
  2. Plan, conduct, and manage research projects within the federal and institutional regulations and policies under the direction of the principal investigator.
  3. Responsible for appropriate use of research funds and resources.
  4. Comply with all annual job-related training requirements.
Patient Enrollment
  1. Adhere to the approved recruitment and enrollment strategy.
  2. Able to interact with study participants and families and talk to them about the purpose of the study and protocol details.
  3. Able to effectively communicate with a diverse subject population.
Regulatory Documents
  1. Maintain regulatory documents as per sponsor and data center instructions.
Study Management
  1. Ensure compliance with protocol guidelines and requirements of regulatory agencies.
  2. Stay informed of and adhere to human research protection guidelines.
  3. Accurately complete IRB submissions on time.
  4. Anticipate study needs and work to accomplish them in a timely manner.
  5. Work well with other member of the clinical research team and seek assistance when needed.
Data Collection
  1. Accurately and in a timely manner collect data from patient medical records, interviews, questionnaires, diagnostic tests and other sources; code, evaluate and interpret collected data and prepare appropriate documentation as directed.
  2. Correctly enter any clinical and research data information into databases, including electronic CRFs and sample tracking databases.
  3. Follow established guidelines in the collection of clinical data.
Specimen Collection
  1. Plan and coordinate research specimen collections, including sample and data collection.
  2. Maintain certification to ship clinical specimens if applicable.
  1. Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance
  2. Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation
  3. Stop in the face of uncertainty and takes time to resolve the situation
  4. Demonstrate accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communication
  5. Actively promote safety for patients, families, visitors and co-workers
  6. Attend carefully to important details - practicing Stop, Think, Act and Review in order to self-check behavior and performance

Internship Program

The internship program provides the novice nurse with the knowledge base and skill set needed to transition to competence in clinical nursing practice. While providing the needed skills to meet the organization goals and mission, the program provides nurses with the leadership skills to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. The program bridges the gap between undergraduate education and real-life professional nursing practice, delivering state-of-the art pediatric care.

The program is offered to new graduate nurses from an accredited nursing program with a passion for children. All new graduates, with less than one-year acute care experience, are eligible to participate in the program after obtaining licensure.
