Functional Accountabilities

Communication
  1. Continuously monitor and operate multiple radio, telephone and recording systems, providing immediate response to emergency and urgent calls from regional EMS agencies.
  2. Act as liaison between pre-hospital personnel and CNMC resources.
  3. Facilitate feedback information to regional EMS agencies.
  4. Secure and coordinate return of EMS field equipment.
EMTC Physician Referral System
  1. Coordinate EMTC Physician Referral System; receive patient information and evaluations requested from outside physicians in private practice or from referring hospitals.
  2. Provide triage of calls to EMTC attending physicians as needed.
  3. Enter information into ECIC database.
  4. Track referred patients and facilitate physician feedback via fax of records/documents.
Transport Services
  1. Coordinate ambulance, helicopter and fixed wing transport to and from CNMC.
  2. Manage transport logistics, assign transports and coordinate operation of the Pediatric and Neonatal Transport Service.
  3. Generate charges for transport services.
  4. Oversee helipad operations and provide training in helicopter safety.
  5. Document compliance with EMTALA and COBRA laws for patients transferred from EMTC.
Data Systems
  1. Operate communication and data systems to support the emergency consultation and referral system, including computer aided dispatching and flight following, transport management and physician referral software and use of emerging telecommunications technology.
  2. Maintain ECIC data and documentation of daily operations.
  3. Perform administrative tasks necessary for ECIC function, including QA of ECIC data, transport billing and invoices.
CNMC Disaster Command Center Operations
  1. Provide referring hospitals, physicians, and EMS agencies immediate interface to in-house CNMC resources, including initiation of Trauma Stat and Code Blue team responses, emergent medical control consultation with EMTC attending physicians and specialized response as needed.
  2. Coordinate the operation of the CNMC Disaster Command Center.
  3. Act as Coordinator for the District of Columbia Disaster Communications System, interfacing CNMC and city-wide response with regional government disaster command centers and EMS systems.
  4. Coordinate regular drills of the city-wide system.

Internship Program

The program is offered to new graduate nurses from an accredited nursing program with a passion for children. All new graduates, with less than one-year acute care experience, are eligible to participate in the program after obtaining licensure.
