Required Skills/Knowledge

Requires ability to follow written and oral instructions. Must have excellent customer service skills and an ability to communicate positively with patients, families, and staff. Ability to operate, vacuums, buffers, shampooers, auto scrubbers, scrubbers, burnishers, carpet extractors and shampoo machines, and other related cleaning equipment. Ability to properly utilize internal communication devices such as beepers, cell phones, walkie-talkies when assigned. Must have excellent customer service skills and an ability to communicate positively with patients, families and staff. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds routinely and 60 pounds occasionally; must be able to bend from waist and at knees; must be able to reach with arms over head; must be able to stand for prolonged periods.


Required Licenses and Certifications




Functional Accountabilities

Perform routine, specialized cleaning and job assignments as assigned
  1. Perform daily routine cleaning in assigned areas following established policies and procedures; this could include specialty areas, such as, Operating Room, Cardiac Cath Lab, Recovery room, IR rooms, special procedure rooms, MRI’s, Sterile Supply, etc.
  2. Maintain sterile field as required according to department policy.
  3. Remove trash and soiled linen (to include the removal and replacement of linen on discharged patient beds, stretchers and on-call rooms) and use appropriate techniques and bagging procedures.
  4. Replenish bathroom supplies as needed.
  5. Perform project work such as cleaning specialized equipment as directed.
  6. Use cleaning chemicals for their specific purpose, follow product directions.
  7. Restock cart and notify supervisor when supplies are low.
  8. Perform meeting room set ups when assigned.
  9. Perform routine and restorative care to hard and carpeted floors as assigned.
Complete Daily Report
  1. Complete checklist and log of duties completed during shift.
Use cleaning equipment appropriately
  1. Operate cleaning equipment according to instructions.
  2. Replace belts, bags and make other minor equipment repairs; report other mechanical failures to supervisor.
  3. Clean equipment as directed.
Report to Work as Scheduled
  1. Arrive and depart work on time.
  2. Report to work on scheduled days with no excessive absenteeism.
  3. Leave for meal break and return on time.
  4. Follow sign in/out procedures for pagers, keys and equipment as required by procedure.
Follow Established Dress Code
  1. Report to work in uniform.
  2. Uniform are clean and free of debris or odor.
  3. Entire uniform is worn daily.
  4. Follow department and hospital uniform procedures.
Participate in Continuing Education
  1. Attend weekly/monthly departmental training sessions.
  2. Attend mandatory annual training sessions.
Safety
  1. Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance
  2. Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation
  3. Stop in the face of uncertainty and takes time to resolve the situation
  4. Demonstrate accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communication

Internship Program

The internship program provides the novice nurse with the knowledge base and skill set needed to transition to competence in clinical nursing practice. While providing the needed skills to meet the organization goals and mission, the program provides nurses with the leadership skills to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. The program bridges the gap between undergraduate education and real-life professional nursing practice, delivering state-of-the art pediatric care.

The program is offered to new graduate nurses from an accredited nursing program with a passion for children. All new graduates, with less than one-year acute care experience, are eligible to participate in the program after obtaining licensure.
