Qualifications

 

Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree

Specific Requirements and Preferences
Bachelor's in Medical Technology or equivalent related field of science. Previous LIS experience a plus.

Minimum Work Experience
2 Year(s)

Specific Requirements and Preferences
At least 2-3 years experience in an accredited clinical laboratory required. Supervisory or progressive experience in healthcare preferred.

LIS Blood Bank Modules experience preferred.


Required Skills/Knowledge

Statistics preferred. Good interpersonal and communication skills important. Knowledge and skills related to LIS desirable. Demonstrates strategic thinking. Ability to multi-task and requires organizational skills.
must successfully complete the CNMC Trustworthiness and Reliability assessment, including fingerprinting, as a requirement of the position


Required Licenses and Certifications

Registry or eligible as MT(ASCP) preferred.



Functional Accountabilities

Project Management

  1. Build and test applications as assigned; ensure critical milestones are met.
  2. Assist in the development of ongoing maintenance requirements.
  3. Ensure communication with departmental/function/section impacted with solutions as well as LIS Manager or designee.
  4. Maintain documentation of current project status and provide updates when requested.
  5. Assess and define educational needs of end-users and assist with training end-users.
  6. Complete tasks.
Troubleshoot
  1. Monitor of LIS systems DAILY, as assigned; set up maintenance in Dr Chart; review MPI Change report and New Activity report; work with all sections to resolve discrepancies; contact clinics or ROCs with ordering and billing issues.
  2. Document and communicate identified issues to LIS Manager or designee.
  3. Investigate information system problems and/or issues and use problem solving skills to provide resolution.
  4. Develop strategies to promote performance improvement.
Liaison
  1. Serve as a liason between areas of the institution and the Department of Laboratory Medicine; perform functions for the specific section; identify, evaluate and resolve technical and patient related problems; participate in departmental/hospital committees as required.

Systems Testing
  1. Perform integrated testing across all systems; contact vendors (e.g. Sunquest) to resolve issues and problems.
  2. Maintain documentation of testing and provide LIS manager with documentation records.
Staff Training
  1. Assist to train new employees, including nurses and physicians; serve as technical designee in competency testing of staff.
  2. Assess information system educational needs of staff and assist in the development and delivery of education materials.
  3. Serve as a resource for end-users.
  4. Develop training manuals for Lab Information systems.

Internship Program

The internship program provides the novice nurse with the knowledge base and skill set needed to transition to competence in clinical nursing practice. The program is offered to new graduate nurses from an accredited nursing program with a passion for children. All new graduates, with less than one-year acute care experience, are eligible to participate in the program after obtaining licensure.
