We hope you#ll come and find out for yourself. It#s Work That Matters. # The Nurse Practitioner II (NPII) is a registered nurse with advanced academic preparation and clinical training. The NPII provides nursing and medical services to patients, emphasizing health promotion and disease prevention, as well as the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic diseases. The NPII functions under established standardized protocols and works autonomously as well as in collaboration with other health care professionals to diagnose and manage clients# health care needs. Responsibilities include ordering, conducting and interpreting appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests; prescription of pharmacologic agents and treatments and nonpharmacologic therapies in a cost efficient manner. The NPII is a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, patient advocate and mentor for NP colleagure development. The NPII demonstrates commitment to a patient and family focused model of care and assists in the analysis of the CHLA health care delivery system to provide optimal patient care. Minimum Education/Training Required: Masters of Science degree in Nursing from an N.L.N. accredited graduate school of nursing required. Minimum Experience Required: Three years pediatric experience preferred 2 years experience as a Pediatic#Nurse Practitioner required along with 2 years of BMT experience # # License, Registration or Certification Required: Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing for #hold out as a Nurse Practitioner# as defined in Section 1482, Nurse Practice Act, Business and Professional Code. Current California Registered Nurse License and current certification as a Nurse Practitioner. BCLS/PALS National Certification as an NP in specialty field Furnishing license

Nurse Training

Children's Hospital is committed to developing the highest quality nursing staff, at our hospital and across the region.  Our nurses are provided with a multitude of professional development opportunities to develop their skills so that they can care for the most seriously ill and injured children in our region.   Our commitment to the training of nurses is evidenced by:

  • Our collaboration with 16 schools of nursing throughout the country
  • Over 45 nurses on staff who also serve as faculty at nursing schools across Southern California
  • The hospital's status as a practice partner with the Masters Entry Clinical Nurse (MECN) Prelicensure Program at the UCLA School of Nursing.
  • Pediatric nursing rotation training provided to 737 student nurses annually.
In addition, the hospital pioneered a unique approach to training nurses that has become a national model.  The Versant RN Residency in Pediatrics, a 22-week program that provides new nursing school graduates with a comprehensive guided clinical experience to prepare them for work in an acute care environment.
