JOB SUMMARY

Performs diagnostic sonography examinations utilizing ultrasound equipment in various modes and techniques to locate, evaluate, and record pertinent anatomical, pathological, and functional data. Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

CERTIFICATION SUMMARY

  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography certification in Pediatric Sonography within 2 years of employment
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment

EXPERIENCE*

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES*

  1. Performs ultrasound procedures producing scans of highest diagnostic quality through evaluation and selection of proper machine settings and proper patient positioning to produce optimum images for radiologist interpretation.
  2. Operates technical equipment related to patient care imaging, image processing, image transmission, image archiving, and computerized electronic medical records.
  3. Updates electronic medical record through order entry, exam scheduling, exam check-in, exam begin and end, exam verification, exam merging, and image rejection.
  4. Ensures accuracy of billing for radiology procedures.
  5. Provides radiologists and physicians with patient history relative to exam being performed to assist in the diagnosis.
  6. Collaborates with physicians, nurses, and all staff members to ensure a safe outcome for the patient.
  7. Participates in department- and modality-specific quality improvement initiatives, including American College of Radiology accreditation.
  8. Demonstrates consistent proficiency in performing sonography examinations using appropriate standardized protocols to produce the highest quality images and evaluating images for technical quality prior to sending to picture archiving and communication system for interpretation by radiologists.
  9. Participates in achievement of organizational and departmental goals.

SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES*

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.

 

Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
