JOB SUMMARY

To provide quality clinical information by accurately performing laboratory tests and procedures that aid the pathologist in confirmation of patient diagnosis.  To proactively support the efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and to promote a safe environment at Children's.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certification as a Histotechnician (ASCP) or the histotechnician qualifications according to the Department of Community Health Diagnostics Services Unit. For Persons recently moved into the state or have recently completed the academic and training/experience requirements may be temporarily classified as technologists or technicians for eighteen (18) months only to afford the persons an opportunity to successfully complete an approved qualifying examination.
  • Previous experience in a clinical laboratory is preferred.
  • Requires limited use of independent judgement and responsibility with minimum technical supervision.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform routine histologic specimen processing procedures per standard operating policies.

Perform routine histology, immunohistochemistry, and histochemistry as well as special stains per standard operating procedures.

Performs tasks to support the overall operation of the department.

Assists pathologists with gross pathology procedures.

Makes sound decision which lead to desired outcomes.

Acts in a professional manner when communicating with doctors and co-workers.

Maintain current technical knowledge & skills as defined in the laboratory continuing education policy.
