JOB SUMMARY

To assist in providing competent nursing care to patients and families whose health care needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex and rapidly changing. The scope of responsibility will encompass technical, organizational and team skills, and clinical resource.  To proactively support the efforts that ensures delivery of safe patient care and services and to promote a safe environment at Children's.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Graduation from recognized Surgical Technologist Program
  • One year work experience as a surgical technician preferred
  • Previous pediatric operating room experience preferred.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Assists in the ongoing process of healthcare delivery to patients and parents incorporating age related and developmental specific requirements.

2.Provide technical skills assisting surgeon or staff and operating surgical equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Maintains knowledge of current equipment and supplies.

3.Utilizes effective communication skills in providing care to patients and families. Assist in collaborative practice with the health care team.

4.Demonstrates cost effectiveness and efficiency with regard to time management and supply use.

5.Participates in orientation of students, staff members and other health professionals.

6.Performs on-going department specific tasks as assigned.

7.Manages own professional development by rotating through other specialties to maintain competence.

8.While clinical staff may serve a specific patient population, they have the potential to care for patients within the age population range served at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.  Clinical staff will have competencies that will incorporate age specific guidelines. This age population includes:

N = Neonate (less than 30 days)

I = Infant (30 days to 1 year)

EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years)

LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years)

A = Adolescent (13-17 years)

AD = Adult

ALL - all ages
