Responsible for the timely and accurate access of paper-based documentation through the performance of document imaging scanning and indexing.  Assisting in maintaining the data integrity of the electronic medical record by participating in continuous quality improvement activities and the identification of misfiled, duplicate and illegible documentation.  Proactively supports efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and to promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required.  Associates Degree , Health Information Management discipline or related field, preferred
  • Minimum one (1) year prior health information management experience required.   
  • Prior experience with electronic medical record systems in a hospital setting required.
  • Excellent data entry skills, computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Windows required.  Keyboarding/typing skills of at least 35 words/min with minimal errors.
  • Ability to maintain a quality rate of at least 97% in reference to scanned documents.
  • Proficient on computers and the ability to learn new computer programs.
  • Strong listening and clarification skills, data entry skills, and attention for detail necessary in order to deal with a high volume workload.
  • Ability to assess workloads, prioritization and working well under pressure in order to meet customer needs; successfully handle multiple tasks.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.



Responsible for accurate document prepping, scanning and indexing for Children’s document imaging system.

Responsible for locating and retrieving records from clinical areas each day and reconciling against census reports to validate an accounting of all records.  Any records identified as missing are immediately brought to the attention of the supervisor. 

Validates the accuracy of the complete medical record during the scanning and indexing process by reconciling the receipt of all chart documentation.  Immediately follows up on any documents identified as missing from the record at the time of receipt.

Coordinates and collects daily statistical data related to document imaging quality and quantity metrics.

Monitors, investigates, and corrects any documents, scanned or cold-fed, that are identified as misfiled, mis-fed, duplicate or illegible.  Proactively takes action to re-scan or re-index, and communicates this information to involved staff or effected departments.

Identifies outdated, unapproved, or illegible forms that are in need of revision or approval and forwards them to the Forms Coordinator or HIS Supervisor.
